StudentadvisementandregistrationactivitiesarewellunderwayforSpring2016.
BeginningJanuary6th,advisement/registrationwillmovetotheStudentUniontoallow
foramoreconvenientone-stopshoptobeset-up.Academyadvisershaveconducteda
telephoneoutreachcampaigntoallsecondsemesterfreshmenencouragingearly
advisementandregistration.
InadditiontoNewYorkCity,thecollegeisfocusingrecruitmenteffortsinNassau
County.Anewadmissionsrecruiterhasbeenhiredtoworkexclusivelywithhighschools
inNassau.Sheisvisitingallhighschoolsintheareatoinformcounselorsandstudents
aboutthemanyopportunitiesavailableatQueensborough.
FacultyandStaff:AwardsandHonors

Dr.JuliaCarroll,AssociateProfessorinAcademicLiteracyandDr.AmyTraver,Associate
ProfessorinSocialScienceshavebeeninvitedtocontributeanarticleontheirservicelearningwork,whichisdirectlyconnectedtothisyear'sNEHcolloquiaseries,tothe
AmericanAssociationofColleges&Universities(AAC&U)publication,Diversityand
Democracy.ThetwoQCCfacultymembersareveryexcitedforthisopportunityto
promotetheircollectiveeffortstosuchalargenationalaudience.

TheCUNYFacultyFellowshipPublicationProgramofferssupportandreleasedtimefor
facultytopublishintheirdiscipline.AsofNovember25,2015fiveQueensborough
facultyhavebeenawardedthiscompetitiveawardfor2015-16.Thefacultyare:
CarolynKingfromtheMathDepartment;aswellasKathleenAlves,LeahAnderst,
GeorgeFragopoulos,andTanyaZhelezchevafromEnglish.

ProfessorChristineMooney,fromtheBusinessDepartmentwona$10,000grantfrom
SantanderBankforajointprogramwithMedgarEversCollege,MillennialsMakeit
Happen.Theprogramwillfocusonfinancialliteracy.

FrancaFerrari-Bridgers,whohavebeenselectedtoserveastheSalzburg2016faculty
advisers.

USScholarshipProgramtoassistundocumentedstudentsinobtainingscholarships.The
Dream.USScholarshipProgramprovidescollegescholarshipstohighlymotivated
undocumentedstudentswhoenteredtheUnitedStatesasminorsandwho,without
financialassistance,cannotaffordacollegeeducation.Thenextapplicationcycleis
currentlyopen,withadeadlineofFebruary15,2016fortheFall16semester.Please

TheNewYorkCityMayor’sOfficecontinuesfundingoftheSTEMSupportExpansion
Program.Amajorcomponentofthisinitiativeprovidestuitionwaiverstostudents
takingSTEMcourses.OverfivehundredSTEMwaiverapplicationswerereceivedand
processedfortheJanuary2016intersession.Allavailablefundsforthewinterfunds
havebeenclaimedandtheapplicationprocessclosed.TheSTEMwaiverprogramwill
continueinsummer2016.Encourageallstudentstoapplyearly.
ApplicationsfortheMilestoneScholarshipcontinuetobeacceptedfortheJanuary2016
intersession.Thescholarshipsareintendedtosupportastudentreachingthe“thirtycredit”milestoneofhis/herQueensboroughdegreewithinonecalendaryear.Students
whobegantheirdegreeprograminSpring2015andhavecompletedbetween26and
29creditstowardstheirdegreeasoftheendofthisfalltermwitha2.75GPAorhigher
areencouragedtoapplyforthewinterscholarship.Alleligiblecandidatesmustsubmita
completeapplicationtotheOfficeofAcademicAffairsassoonaspossible.
BTECH
•
Facultycontinuetoworkonpreparingstudentsfortheirfirstcollegecoursesby
developingtheIndicatorsofStudentReadiness(ISRs)withthehighschoolteachers.
Approximately80secondyearstudentsareenrolledinSpeech211forthespring
semester,theirfirstcollegecourse.AdditionalISRsarebeingdevelopedbythe
teachersandfacultyforscience,english,andmathcourses.BTECHandcurrentQCC
collegestudentsareparticipatinginaSAPmediaeventatChelseaPiersentitled,
Technology:theIntersectionoftwoIndustries-SportsandHealthcare.Twenty
journalistsfrommajorpublicationswillbeattendingandallthestudentswillbe
assignedrolessuchasjournalists,bloggers,videographers,tweeters,andinterviewers.
FY15StrategicPlan
•
Thestrategicplanningprocessfor2016-17isproceedingonschedule.Initialfocus
groupdiscussionshavebeenheldwithgovernanceleaders,academicchairs,HEOs,and
studentleaders.Asscheduled,theCollegeAdvisoryPlanningCommittee(CAPC)metin
SeptemberandNovemberandwillbeginmeetingagaininthespringsemester.A
preliminarydraftoftheplanwillbedistributedtothedivisionsofthecollegeforfurther
input.Openhearingsforthecampuscommunitywillbeheldlaterinthespring
semesterfordiscussionandinput.Thestrategicplanwillformaroundsixcollegegoals:
facultyandstaffdevelopment,curriculum,QueensboroughAcademies,college
readiness,useoftechnology,andcommunity-building.

GENERALEDUCATIONTASKFORCE
•
TheTaskForcehascompletedtherubricsforthethirdandfourthGeneralEducation
outcomes,QuantitativeReasoningandinformationManagement.Allfourrubricswill
beusedforassessinggeneraleducationoutcomesinspring2016.TheTaskForceis
currentlycompletingitsreviewoftheCollege’scurrentEducationalOutcomes,last
revisedin2007.AsdescribedintheMay2015reporttotheSenate,theTaskForcehas
preparedaGeneralEducationmissionstatementandguidingprinciplesforthereview
andhasidentifiedcorelearningoutcomes.Toengageallthefacultyinthisreview
process,theTaskForcehaspreparedaGeneralEducationSurveytogetfeedbackon
howthefacultywanttoreviseourlistoftenoutcomes.Allfacultymembersare
encouragedtorespondtothesurvey.

TheOfficeofNewStudentEngagementwillhostaWelcomeSessionforprospective
studentsandtheirfamiliesonSaturday,December12that10:30a.m.Thesessionis
designed:tointroduce‘non-tested’studentstotheplacementtest;toinformtested
studentsonplacementoptions;toguidestudentsandtheirfamiliesthroughthe
enrollmentprocess;toeducatestudentsandtheirfamiliesoncollegerelatedfinancial
responsibilities;andasthefirststeptointroduceinformationoncollegetransitionand
readiness.

TheOfficeofHealthServiceswillbehostingaBloodDriveonWednesday,December
16thfrom8:30am–4:00pmintheStudentUnionLounge.

TheannualConvocationoftheCollegewillbeheldonThursday,January28,2016inM136from9amto12noon,withacontinentalbreakfastat8:30am.Itishostedbythe
OfficeofAcademicAffairsforfacultyandHEOsandlaunchesourspringsemesterthat
featuresnewdirectionsandinnovationsoccurringattheCollegeandtheworkoffaculty
inimportantinitiativesacrosscampus.Thisyeartheconvocationwillhighlightsupport
availabletofacultyforscholarshipandteaching.
TheCenterforExcellenceinTeachingandLearning(CETL)willhosttheNewFaculty
Institute,athree-dayexperienceintendedtofamiliarizenewfacultywithessential
facultysupportresourcesandpedagogicalinnovationsofferedattheCollege.The
institutewillbeheldonJanuary19to21,2016,from9:30amto3:00pm.Thefirstof
thethreedaysthefacultywillmeetintheOaklandDiningRoom,theseconddayinLB
24andthelastdayintheOaklandDiningRoom.
TheAdjunctandSubstituteFacultyOrientationatwo-dayeventissponsoredbythe
OfficeofAcademicAffairs.TheorientationswillbeheldonTuesday,February2,2016,
from9:00amto11:00am,andThursday,February4,from4:00pmto6:00pminthe
OaklandDiningRoom.
