I hope that you can attend. Please consider inviting a “potential-member” as your guest. As we welcome Spring, I hope it brings in a better budget era for the State of Illinois and Western Illinois University. Our former employer, current employer and alma mater have faced the most challenging budget times that any of us can recall. The State and Western Illinois University need a budget. Western's faculty, staff and students deserve the stability a budget provides. Let's hope that this situation improves very soon. I hope to see you and a friend on the 26th. Jackie Thompson President, WIU SUAA MEMBERSHIP CO-CHAIRS Karen Helmers & Judy Brown SUAA advocates on behalf of all faculty and staff of public universities and community colleges - both retired and current employees - their spouses and survivors, who are participants and beneficiaries of the State Universities Retirement System. The purpose of the chapter is to: Promote the individual and collective interests and welfare of annuitants and prospective annuitants; Improve communications between the university and its retirees; Provide social events for its members; Promote discussion and participation with other annuitant organizations in the State of Illinois; and Communicate with legislators, other public officials, and candidates for office on issues important to annuitants, such as full funding of state pension programs, protection of cost-of-living increases, and retention of current income tax exemptions for retirement benefits.
