GREETINGS FROM YOUR CHAPTER PRESIDENT
Included in this newsletter is information about the WIU/SUAA annual meeting and dinner, which will be on
Tuesday, April 26. I hope that you can attend. Please consider inviting a “potential-member” as your guest.
As we welcome Spring, I hope it brings in a better budget era for the State of Illinois and Western Illinois
University. Our former employer, current employer and alma mater have faced the most challenging budget times
that any of us can recall. The State and Western Illinois University need a budget. Western's faculty, staff and
students deserve the stability a budget provides. Let's hope that this situation improves very soon.
I hope to see you and a friend on the 26th.
Jackie Thompson
President, WIU SUAA
MEMBERSHIP CO-CHAIRS
Karen Helmers & Judy Brown
SUAA advocates on behalf of all faculty and staff of public universities and community colleges - both retired
and current employees - their spouses and survivors, who are participants and beneficiaries of the State Universities
Retirement System. The purpose of the chapter is to: Promote the individual and collective interests and welfare of
annuitants and prospective annuitants; Improve communications between the university and its retirees; Provide
social events for its members; Promote discussion and participation with other annuitant organizations in the State of
Illinois; and Communicate with legislators, other public officials, and candidates for office on issues important to
annuitants, such as full funding of state pension programs, protection of cost-of-living increases, and retention of
current income tax exemptions for retirement benefits. For more information about SUAA, go to www.suaa.org or
