MISSION
INSTRUCTIONS:
Your mission statement should be no more than 80 words in length.
The mission of CSTEP is to recruit and retain students from historically underrepresented minorities (of
African, Hispanic/Latino or Native American/Alaskan Native descents) or economically disadvantage
(based on criteria established by New York State) pursuing professional education programs of study
leading to professional licensure and careers in STEM fields to ensure completion of their degrees.
The CSTEP program is designed for New York State residents, including U.S. permanent residents or
U.S. citizens who must be full-time students.

Advisement
Provided academic advisement to110 students. Promote
academic excellence and encourage students to maintain a
minimum Grade Point Average of 3.0
Assist students in their professional developments via
resume writing sessions, internship and research
placements and community service opportunities.
Created an environment where successful CSTEP students
would help their peers in academic difficulties.
Offer enrichment workshops assisting students with their
college life and academic challenges
Provided opportunities for students to present their
research projects at various conferences both regionally
and state wide.
CSTEP students we offered the opportunities to participate
in various field rips including a Site visit at Brookhaven
National Laboratory.
Via the CSTEP club, students had a chance to develop
leadership, communication, and management skills.
CSTEP students received free text books at the beginning
of every semester making it more affordable to attend
school and perform well.
Eligible students received metrocards to cover their
transportation to and from the college.
Stipends were distributed to eligible students as a
compensation for their dedication to their academic
progress.

A short summer Program is put together for CSTEP
eligible freshmen interested in any STEM related
curriculum.
Participants share invaluable social interaction and friendly
support with fellow students, as well as receive customized
strategies for success in both professional and personal
aspects of life.
