A test-taking strategy Continuing assessment tool that would be used in the ACT COMPASS Reading Reviews was developed and implemented. Early evaluation seems to indicate positive growth in student testing outcomes. This tool will be honed and reused as an evaluative measure in the upcoming academic year. Results gleaned from this tool will inform future tutor development sessions. Assessment and Evaluation KPI Target Outcome Actual Outcome Action Plan Status ACT COMPASS Reading Exit-fromRemediation Pass Rate Plan, develop, and implement an online ACT COMPASS Reading Review that will replicate the in-person reviews and produce equivalent or improved pass rates. 67 BES students participated in an online reading review. When compared to a control group, Online Reading Review students had equivalent pass rates (53%) and test scores (avg.= 71). The pass rate for BE 122 students was 71% (avg.= 76) and 32% (avg.= 64) for non-native speakers. Perkins funding enabled Continuing the BSLC Computer Lab to plan, develop, and implement an online ACT COMPASS Reading Review, thus offering BES students an option for receiving reading support at a time and place convenient to them. The Epsilen ePortfolio platform was used as its shell, and students and eTutors communicated through Epsilen's ePortfolio "Group Forum." CATW Exit-fromremediation pass rate Plan, develop, and implement CATW test practice materials CATW practice test material was planned, developed, and implemented with the spring 2011 BES students preparing for the CATW. A non-instructional adjunct provided tutors with strategies for using the newly developed CATW material with BES students. Spring pass rates were 66% for BE 112 students, 38% for non-native speakers, and 49% overall (32 BE 112 students participated in a 8 hour review; 51 BE 205 students participated in an 8 hours CATW review). Plans for providing students with greater access to this material through a digital format are being explored. 1) Plan, develop, and Continuing implement a digital format for the CATW test taking material. 2) Provide for an eTutor orientation and training for BSLC eTutors by piggybacking with the CWC which has an already established eTutor training. Assessment and Evaluation KPI Target Outcome Actual Outcome Action Plan Status Increased ACT COMPASS Reading Workshop enrollment for students with a grades of NC Increase the number of BES reading students with grades of NC who register for an ACT COMPASS Reading Workshop immediately after exiting the course. 98 out of 107 (91.6%) BES reading fall 2010 students with grades of NC immediately registered, participated, and completed a 20 hour ACT COMPASS Reading Workshop in January 2011. The BSLC provided Continuing information concerning the January 2011 workshops to faculty through emails and hard copy. Students were notified through the faculty. The departmental deputy chair emailed and sent a hard copy concerning the importance of faculty intervention in registering students for the January 2011 workshops and to support the enrollment of exiting fall 2010 students. Schedule a meeting that will present the findings of this strategy with new department chair and deputy chair. Set policies and procedures for the upcoming academic year in reference to maintaining compliance of students with grades of NC in completing their remedial process. The first-time pass rate (54%) was slightly higher than the pass rate that included multiple retesters (52%). ACT COMPASS Reading Retesting Scores Maintain a 50% or better pass rate on retesting for students who enroll in an ACT COMPASS Reading Workshop. On average, students will raise retest scores by at least 6 points. The retesting pass rate for the academic year (July 1, 2010 to June 30, 2011) is undetermined at this time as the June workshops are presently in session. As of June 1, 2011, the pass rate is 68%. The number of BE students with grades of NC who completed a 20 hour workshop is 419. Students have been informed that there is a time limit on resolving the grade of NC. The pass rate BE 112 students with an in-class tutor was 66.1%. The pass rate BE 205 students enrolled in sections that utilized an in-class tutor was 28.1%. Support services that are Continuing provided on site in the classrooms seems to have a positive impact on course pass rates. The BES faculty who receive this support report anecdotal efficacy of this methodology.
