Queensborough Community College Constitution Article I. Newman Club Article II. The purpose of the club is that its members are called to be responsible members of the college and world community by reaching out to others. Their desire to love themselves and others is based on faith in a Supreme Being. This faith is nourished through membership in the Newman Club. Article III: Membership The Newman Club welcomes all students of Queensborough Community College. No person shall be denied membership or office in this organization because of race, color, religious beliefs or non-belief, national origin, sex, political beliefs, veteran, handicapped status or sexual orientation. One may become a member by attending the meetings and expressing an interest in joining. Article IV: Section 1. Officers and Duties President: The president conducts meetings. He/She stays in touch with the members and reminds them of upcoming activities. He/She attends meetings conducted for the president of clubs held by Queensborough Student Association. He/She is responsible for organizing one program each semester. Vice-President: The vice-president conducts meetings when the president can not be present. He/She attends meetings conducted for vicepresidents of clubs held by Queensborough Student Association. He/She is responsible for organizing one program each semester. Senator: The duty of the senator is to attend meetings conducted by the Queensborough Student Association. In turn, he/she brings 1 back the information to the membership of the Newman Club and he/she assists in implementing the suggestions made at those meetings. Section II. Election and Procedures One or more students will be nominated from within the group. The student who receives the majority of the votes will assume the office. Article V: Meetings are held each week. Quorum requirements are a positive motion by fifty percent of the membership present. Article VI: The Amendment Procedures are: A member may suggest a change in the operation of the Newman Club. The suggestion will be considered by the membership over a period of two weeks. Before the next meeting, all the members will be reminded of the amendment that is being considered and then at the third meeting a vote will be taken, which will need 50 percent of the assembled members present voting positive for it to be passed. Article VII: Ratification This constitution and all amendments to it must be approved the appropriate governing body (QSA Student Senate) Article VII: Conduct of Meetings Most meetings are conducted accordingly to Robert's Rule of Order, although moderate rather than strict parliamentary procedures are normally followed. 2
