Integrated Management of International Rivers in
response to Climate Change
The Monash Sustainability Institute (Monash University) is coordinating a one-week workshop addressing international river
management in response to climate change.
A particular emphasis will be on the Ganga and Brahmaputra
river basins, South Asia. These basins are affected by climate
change, population growth, urbanisation, and industrial
development.
Important issues to be addressed at the workshop (in the
context of likely climate change scenarios) include:

water resource allocation policy;
inter-agency co-ordination and collaboration;
community development;
spatial planning for natural resource management;
governance; and
geopolitical issues
The workshop is part of an Australian Leadership Awards (ALA)
Fellowship program supported by AusAID. Noted scholars and
policy makers from India and Australia will be participating.
Following the workshop, there will be ongoing discussions, field
visits, and research and development planning sessions.
