Executive Board Reports • Executive Director (Candy & Kiara) § In conjunction with Director of Programming updates. • Director of Programming (Kiara) § • Grad Ball • April 16th; tickets still on sale. § Women’s Research Initiative • Focus Group in the Murray House for graduate women issues o April • Announcement going out in the April newsletter • Will take place in the Murray House § Grad Appreciation Month • Will be released tomorrow afternoon via FB • Will be in April newsletter on Sunday Director of Finance (Candy) § Candy has been working on a research proposal for why carry forwards are an important thing to consider. • GSA funding has been very limited this year; less students have been able to get conference grants. When there is a significant amount of money sitting in org bank accounts, it is not a productive use of the student activity fee. • Comments/questions/concerns? Email Candy (yulinx@bc.edu) by next Wednesday April 6th • Individual grants vs. group grants both exist. • Departments that have not been using their roll over funds to fund students (i.e. conference grants) is where the problem lies. • Your money will not be taken from you. The issue is that bigger orgs that keep accumulating more and more money while smaller orgs are at a clear disadvantage. • Craig’s notion to Candy– Release a proposed budget showing how things would look in September if the carry forward plan would be put into effect. II. Advocacy Group Reports – notable activities/updates • GSCA (Craig) § Race, Racism and the Presidential Election, April 14th 7PM • Panel discussion; one confirmed speaker (Tziana Dearing from SSW); working on securing the others. o 7pm, Gasson 305 o If other schools want to publicize and co-sponsor, contact Craig. Great way to show that many schools/orgs care about this issue. • LinkedIn Professional Photos occurring next week o Monday April 4th, Wednesday April 6th, Friday April 8th o FREE! • Gala in the process of being planned. • General elections happening for next year. • GPA (Mark) BostonCollegeGraduateStudentAssociation SenateMeetingMinutes–Wednesday,March29,2016 § • April 29th Heights Room12-2pm Queering BC • Three (3) student speakers to begin; other student speakers throughout the event to highlight LGBTQ issues. • Lecture for people to address proper terminology and how to have conversations on the subject. • Break out sessions GISA (Shawn) § Connecting Cultures on campus • Connecting with other groups on campus to see what international students are able to take advantage of. III. Senator Reports – notable activities/updates • GNA (Elizabeth) § 4/11-4/12 Women’s Health Night § 4/25 Opioid Epidemic Discussion § Nominations for next year’s board positions just opened up; GNA gala • STM (Michelle) § Racism workshop; 20-25 participants; went very well. § April 16th – Allies Training Workshop § Week of Service April 18th-April 23rd • SSW Collective (Taylor) § Mandatory Reporting Workshop happened last month; went well. § Spring Fling April 9th § I’ll Walk With You – event about allyship in the LGBTQ/Trans community. • GEA (Kelly/Chris Tansey) § Campion 107; Make your own latte § Cradles to Crayons § Friday April 29th 2:30-4:30 Senior Prom at Senior Citizens Center • 50s inspired. § Precious Knowledge – a film about bilingual programs in Venezuela • Monday, April 25th 7pm § Chris will be the official member of the Parking Advisory Council • Meeting with Jon Savino this week. • GASA (Anatoly) § April 6th 5pm Stokes 109 Careers Outside Academia • Collaborating with Career Center; panel sharing their experiences in fields outside academia followed by a chance to network. § Survey project • Valuable for GSA meetings with the Trustee Board • Helpful for other schools to follow up with the same survey • Anatoly will send out the link for the survey for senators to send out to their respective schools. § Elections for A&S happening by the end of April BostonCollegeGraduateStudentAssociation SenateMeetingMinutes–Wednesday,March29,2016 • • Help publicize to encourage more people to apply! GMA (Michael) § 5k happening this Saturday; link on website to register § Coordinating Grad Week currently § Transition happening • E-Board will be selected by mid-April IV. OGSL Report (Darrell & Hannah) • Elections Committee – Anatoly, Chris, and Mark o Interviews happening this week and next. At the next Senate meeting, the elections committee will suggest their top candidates. • Grads Give Back, April 9th • Grad Talks, April • Student Affairs Reception o Great chance for students to offer feedback. • In the midst of organizing a grad student survey (last one was 2008) o What should be included in this survey? o Are there topics or issues that should be included in this survey? § Marginalized students § Personal Advisor and/or Deans– how much accessibility? § Question the relationship between higher-ups and students – is it helpful? § Mentorship? § How is the career center being utilized? Is the alumni network a helpful network? § Getting at curricular issues § How are people handling tuition? § Expenses as a whole – do students feel supported in finding affordable housing, transportation, etc. § How do you feel the grad student population interacts with undergrad? § How do you feel your supported at BC as a whole? • Specifically, BC administration • How connected are you to the different orgs at BC?
