HOW CAN COUNSELING HELP ME?
WHAT WE DO
COMMON QUESTIONS
Many students have personal issues that may
prevent them from achieving success in college
or other areas of their lives. To help you, a
professional counselor will openly discuss your
concerns, assist you in learning more about
yourself, and help you develop the skills
needed to cope more effectively with your
difficulties.
The Counseling Center provides the following FREE
and CONFIDENTIAL services to Queensborough
students:
1. What can I talk about with a Counselor?
PERSONAL COUNSELING
A counselor can assist you with resolving any
personal problems that may be affecting your college
experience. These may include getting along with
your family, making friends, feeling stressed or
depressed, and more.
TRANSFER COUNSELING
Not sure whether you should continue your education
at a senior college or look for a job? Don’t worry, a
counselor will help you explore different options for
post-graduation.
CAREER COUNSELING
Don’t know how to choose the right career? Don’t
know if you’ve chosen the right major? Keep calm;
we can assist you with career planning, decision
making, and referrals to appropriate career resources.
ACADEMIC INFORMATION
A counselor can help you work on issues that are
affecting your academic performance. We provide
information about academic probation, dismissals,
the withdrawal process, interacting with professors,
study skills, time management and much more.
REFERRALS
You can discuss anything with a counselor.
Some of the most common topics include:
Transitioning from high school to college,
dealing with stress, feelings of anxiety or
depression, relationship issues, eating disorders,
difficulty with motivation or concentration,
academic performance, career exploration, and
much more.
2. If I meet with a Counselor, will my professors
or family members be informed?
In most cases, what is discussed during your
counseling session is confidential and will not
be shared with your professors and/or family
members.

a Counselor?
