Bios Georgeanne Oxnam Senior Program Specialist for Edvantia, Inc., designs, develops, and delivers professional development services and technical assistance for schools and districts. Ms. Oxnam was an educator with the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools in Nashville, Tennessee, where she served for 17 years as a classroom teacher and a principal for 13 years, both at the middle school and elementary levels. She has a wide range of experience and expertise in continuous school improvement and in best practices for schools and districts, and is a trainer for the School and District Performance Coaching Series. She has assisted teachers and administrators at all levels in their efforts to improve instruction through professional development and mentoring/coaching processes. Jeannine Branch Jeannine Branch is responsible for providing technical assistance services to State Education Agency clients in the Appalachia Regional Comprehensive Center region. These diverse services support the states of West Virginia, Virginia, North Carolina, Tennessee and Kentucky as they work to meet federal requirements and improve outcomes for students. As a National Board Certified Teacher, she is highly knowledgeable about effective, research-based strategies related to leadership, curriculum, and assessment. She has over 30 years of teaching and coaching experience in elementary and middle schools and has assisted in classroom/school evaluations at all levels. Branch is also knowledgeable about standards development and alignment for professional and curricular areas. Bios Margie Johnson After being a middle school teacher in Kentucky, North Carolina, and Tennessee, Margie Johnson entered the instructional technology field in 2003 as the Instructional Technology Specialist for the Metropolitan Nashville Public Schools (MNPS). In this role, she collaborated with schools to deliver effective instructional technology training that included modeling best practices. In addition, she managed the Title IID (Enhancing Educational through Technology) funds for the district and used them to purchase and to create various instructional resources for the district. In 2008, she became the Director of Professional Development where her focus was to leverage technology tools to deliver effective professional development. During this time, she led the development of MNPSTube, the district’s video-on-demand system, and delivery of professional development via various online resources. Overall, she considers herself a bridge between educators and technologists to ensure that projects are implemented in a timely, cost-effective manner. Yvonne Thayer, Ed.D. Dr. Yvonne Thayer is Director of Education and Learning Strategies for Edvantia. Her work includes helping school districts and state departments lead initiatives that support school improvement: leadership development, implementing teacher-led teams and professional learning communities, coaching in schools, implementing new teacher and principal evaluation systems, and leading change efforts that support continuous improvement. Yvonne is a native of Southwestern Virginia and worked as a district leader in two districts. She worked at the Virginia Department of Education in leadership development, policy analysis, and as director of adult literacy. After retiring from the state, she led the middle grades reform initiative for the Southern Regional Education Board. Yvonne’s publications have always focused on improving teaching and learning, most recently in the areas of coaching and communities of practice. Her doctorate is from Teachers College, Columbia University. She has homes near her other alma mater, Virginia Tech, and in Atlanta.
