Stats 10-16-12Page 2 Learning Outcome #3 Learning Outcome #4 Learning Outcome #5 Learning Outcome #6 Learning Outcome #7 Describe the assessment activity and the ( student learning outcome(s) it addresses ) that occurred in your course. Students were given movement sequences that addressed the learning objectives that they had to perform. They were evaluated on a Bartenieff Based movement sequence, a swing phrase, and an integrated movement combination the first week of class, mid-semester in a mid-term evaluation, and in a final movement exam. Students were also required to attend a professional modern dance concert and write a reaction paper. List the data collection instrument (s) used for assessment 1. Students were filmed doing the movement sequences that the students learned in class and worked on for 2 weeks. Prior to the evaluations, students were given specific grading points regarding the learning outcomes. Students were required to meet with me individually to review the film for their feedback with specific points that they need to work on. Students were required to write a 3 page reaction paper for the concert they attended. Provide an analysis (and summary) of the assessment results that were obtained. The assignment addressed learning outcomes 1,3, and 4. Students were evaluated on various alignment, body connections, initiations, and sequencing as well as rhythmic sensitivity and integration of concepts. On the Bartenieff Based movement sequence the students should be able to score at least 20 points on the scale created at the intermediate level. All but one student scored 20 points or higher. Students were evaluated on Body Half initiation, Body Half sequencing, toe initiation, spinal sequencing, initiation and sequencing of the sitz bones, heel to head sequencing, and head / tail connection. On the Swing Phrase, the students should be able to score 16 points or higher at the intermediate level. Only 54% of the class scored 16 points or higher on the swing phrase. Students were evaluated on mastering the Limon Swing, weight, suspension, timing, and initiations. For the final combination, the students should be able to score 15 points or higher at the intermediate level. 70% of the students scored 15 points or higher on the final combination. 1 Please use at least one direct assessment measure (selected from the list included with this email message), and any indirect measures you think are appropriate. Intro Educ. Stats 10-16-12Page 3 Describe how the assessment results that were obtained affected (or did not affect) the student learning outcomes you identified. As part of your discussion, describe any plans you have to address the areas where students need to improve. On the Swing Phrase, the students should be able to score 16 points or higher at the intermediate level. Only 54% of the class scored 16 points or higher on the swing phrase. I will be integrating more swing combinations as well as increasing the amount of class time allotted for swing phrases in the next semester, spending more time on weight and suspension as well as understanding the rhythm of ¾ music. For the final combination, the students should be able to score 15 points or higher at the intermediate level. While only 70 percent of the students scored 15 points or higher on the final combination, there was a direct correlation to number of absences with scores. Three of the four students who scored less than 15 points had 4 or more absences. Since most of the work for the class happens during class time, it is impossible to catch up with that many absences. This is clearly explained in detail on the syllabus. Provide examples of student artifacts (can be put in Appendices). See appendices Intro Educ. Stats 10-16-12Page 4
