Interdisciplinary Major
for Lynch School of Education Students
Academic Year 2015-2016
The PERSPECTIVES ON SPANISH AMERICA INTERDISCIPLINARY MAJOR (9 courses/27 Credits) is available as a
second major to students in the Lynch School of Education pursuing an Elementary Education program in fulfillment of their
College of Arts and Sciences major for certification requirements as well as Human Development majors. Secondary Education
students cannot pursue this major. The major is recommended for students who may have had at least two years of high
school Spanish and wish to develop Spanish language skills, coupled with a background in the historical,
sociological, and literary traditions of Spanish American cultures. This major is particularly appropriate for students
with an intended career objective to teach children of Hispanic origin.

Romance Languages and Literatures Requirements
A minimum of four (4) courses (12 credits) in Romance Languages and Literatures are required at the
2000 level or above. At least one must be at the 6000 level. Choose courses with a focus on Spanish
America.
