Remuneration:$9500stipendand5coursesperyearintheLynchSchoolofEducation
BackgroundonVPSAoffice:
TheOfficeoftheVicePresidentforStudentAffairs(VPSA)overseesthefourteendepartments
withintheDivisionofStudentAffairsandsupportsallaspectsofthestudentlearningexperience
atBostonCollege.IncollaborationwithpartnersacrosstheUniversity,theDivisionprovidesco‐
curricularprogramsandservicesthatpromotestudentlearning,healthandwellness,leadership
development,women’sinitiatives,andcommunityengagement.Thedivision’sstaffworkwith
faculty,administrators,andalumnitocreateasafeandwelcomingcommunity,andtosupport
thepersonal,professional,social,andspiritualgrowthoftheUniversity’sundergraduateand
graduatestudents..
ThefunctionsoftheVPSAofficeincludeHumanResources,BudgetandFinance,Strategic
Planning,ProjectManagement,Assessment,StaffDevelopment,andCommunications.
Objectivesofposition
TheGApositionisdesignedtoprovideanemerginghighereducationprofessionalabroad
experiencewithinthefieldofstudentaffairs.Thepositionprovidesintenselearning
opportunitiesinkeyareas,includingprojectmanagement,assessment,programming,research,
andtraining.ThepositionalsoprovidesanopportunityforaGAtolearnaboutone’sinterests
androlewithinthefieldofstudentaffairs.ThroughtheGApositionintheOfficeoftheVice
PresidentforStudentAffairs,astudentwillbeableto:
 Developandshowprogressonpersonalandprofessionallearninggoals
 Demonstrategrowthinkeyareasofresponsibilitywithinthejobdescription
 ArticulatethepurposeofstudentaffairsatBostonCollegeandinanationalcontext
 Describetheissuesandchallengesfacingthefieldofstudentaffairs
 ApplywhatislearnedintheclassroomtotheVPSAgraduateassistantposition
 Seekoutopportunitiesforprofessionaldevelopmentandnetworking

Generalpositionresponsibilities
 Assistintheplanningandexecutionofdivision‐wideprogramsandevents,including
WelcomeWeekandtheDivisionalExcellenceAwards.
 CoordinatespecialprojectsasassignedbytheDirectorofSpecialProjects,AssociateVice
President,andVicePresidentforStudentAffairs.
 Assistintheoverallplanningandimplementationofadivision‐wideassessmentprogram,
includingpreparationfortheUniversityNEASCaccreditationprocess.
 Supportdivision‐widestrategicplanninginitiatives.
 PlanandcoordinateVPSAgraduateassistantprofessionaldevelopmentevents
 CollaboratewiththeVPSACommunicationsSpecialistandotherdivisionalstaffto
supportdivision‐widesocialmediaandwebinitiatives.
 Performresearchonemergingissueswithinstudentaffairs.
 Othertasksasrequired.
Qualifications
PreferencewillbegiventoBostonCollegegraduatestudentsenrolledintheHigherEducation
AdministrationprogramintheLynchSchoolofEducation,particularlythoseenrolledinamulti‐
yearprogram.AllapplicantsmustbeenrolledinagraduateprogramatBostonCollege.
