County Nutrition Directors
First Choice Procurement Workshop
The West Virginia Department of Education, Office of Child Nutrition will host a
procurement workshop, First Choice on December 4, 5 and 6, 2007 at John XXIII
Pastoral Center in Charleston (directions included).
First Choice curriculum provides child nutrition professionals with a resource to guide
procurement procedures. Second edition updates procurement information and
integrates food safety information to assist directors in establishing procedures to
assure receipt of a safe product. Topics include steps in purchasing, regulations, market
place environment, product movement, bid units, specifications, brand approval,
obtaining prices, monitoring cost, product testing, receiving and storage, and purchasing
cooperatives. Instructor will be Patricia Jenkins and Anita Ellis, consultants for the
National Food Service Management Institute.
The workshop will begin at 10:00am Dec 4th and 8:30am the following days.
To register, please complete and return the enclosed registration form. The $75
registration fee, due at the workshop, includes lunch daily, resources and instruction.
Checks or purchase orders should be made payable to WVDE. If you wish lodging at
the Pastoral Center, indicate on the reservation form. Room rate is $45 per night.
