Square Feet: The first floor area of the existing Brown Dental Hygiene Building is approximately 5,400 square feet. An addition has been designed to increase the first floor building area by approximately 7,380 square feet, for a total of 12,780 square feet. The basement was also increased in size from 180 square feet to 1,993 square feet, for a total building area of 14,773 square feet. Scope Changes: No new scope changes have occurred. Discussion of Project Quality: This project followed established campus building standards, included current City and State codes, and was placed on the college campus consistent with master planning guidelines. The existing YVCC campus influenced the building’s image and materials. The final design provided an environmentally-sensitive concept of “sustainable” architecture with the use of natural light, low energy consumption and organic, renewable resource materials that are energy efficient to produce and generate minimum waste.
