understand safety and survival skills.
Indicators (Students will…): Students will learn to
recognize dangers on the internet.
GOAL: Enhance the ability of children to recognize danger on the Internet.
Activity Statements:
Children are introduced to potential dangers on the Internet in the form of the Webville
Outlaws. They will watch a short animation clip and then discuss it.
Materials:

Computer lab or computer connected to an LCD projector or television monitor
“Webville Outlaws” visual aids
“Webville Outlaws” activity from “Clicky’s Web World” program “Internet Safety
Pledge” handout
Large and small pieces of paper
Glue and markers
Procedures:
If you are using the activity from "Clicky's Web World" enter "Teacher" for both first and
last name, and select "The Webville Outlaws." If children are at separate computers,
have them go to the NetSmartz Kids web site and watch "The Webville Outlaws"
activity. Headphones are recommended.
Discussion:
1. What does Potty-Mouth Pete do on the Internet? He uses rude language on the
Internet. Has anyone ever met someone like Potty-Mouth Pete? Why do we need
to watch out for Potty-Mouth Pete on the Internet? What should you do if you
run into a Potty-Mouth Pete on the Internet? Do not reply, turn off the monitor,*
and always tell your parents, your guardian, or a trusted adult.
2. What does Meet-Me Mack do on the Internet? He wants you to meet him
somewhere. Why do we need to watch out for people like Meet-Me Mack on the
Internet? What should you do if you run into people like Meet-Me Mack on the

Internet? Do not give out personal information on the Internet, like your name,
where you live, where you go to school, your telephone number, or the names of
your mom or dad or guardian, and always tell your parents, your guardian, or a
trusted adult. NEVER meet in person with someone you have first “met” online!
3. What does Look-At-Dis Louie do on the Internet? He sends pictures of things that
are mean and ugly, that kids don't want to see. What should you do if someone
sends you a picture that makes you feel scared, uncomfortable, or confused?
Turn off your monitor, and always tell a trusted adult.
4. What does Wanta-Know Wally do on the Internet? He wants to know everything
about you and your family. Why is it wrong for Wanta-Know Wally to know
everything about you and your family? Some people may use information they
receive on the web to hurt you or your family. What should you do if you run into
people like Wanta-Know Wally on the Internet? Do not give out your personal
information on the Internet, like your name, where you live, where you go to
school, your telephone number, or the names of your mom or dad or guardian,
and always tell a trusted adult.
5. *Be sure to show your students how to turn their computer monitors off.
