Expect weekly communications through the listserv as well as periodic memos. 1. General Announcements A. All mail should be directed to Room 304. OSP staff no longer occupies Room 330. The only OSP fax number is now 304.558.3741 for Room 304. B. Meetings and Conferences: Special Education Leadership Academy: Seminars geared toward new directors. August 8 and 9, 2012 at the RESA 7 Lab in Clarksburg, WV (repeat sessions). Special Education Leadership Conference – September 19th-20th in Charleston, WV The Special Education Leadership Conference will be held September 19 and 20, 2012, at the Embassy Suites in Charleston, West Virginia. Topics include updates on Section 504, discipline, co-teaching, digital resources and Support for Personalized Learning (SPL) school implementation. o Contact Kathy Hudnall at 304.558.2696 or khhudnal@access.k12.wv.us. WV CASE 2012 Conference The CEC-CASE Conference will be held on Wednesday, October 17, 2012, at Lakeview in Morgantown, West Virginia. Howard Sueffer will be the keynote speaker. The WVCEC Conference will be held on Thursday and Friday, October 18-19, 2012, following the CEC-CASE conference. o Contact Lesa Hines at 304.624.6554 (ext 229) or lhines@access.k12.wv.us . C. Data Updates: o Data verification and analyses: Look for emails from Lanai Jennings, data coordinator, for: 1) Personnel Report 2) Discipline Report 3) Exit Report In these emails, OSP will be asking you to respond to edit checks / possible data inaccuracies / year-to-year reports and to verify counts. These emails are significant because they directly impact the Annual Desk Audit and graduation (Indicator 1 and AYP results) and dropout (Indicator 2) rates. o Exit Survey: One Year Follow Up Report / Indicator 14 Lanai Jennings is sending you a list of all students who have responded to the survey. Districts must have at least a 5% response rate to meet timely and accurate data status for Indicator 20 in your Annual Determination Status. o Indicator 11: Initial Timelines Report: Double check with your data input staff to ensure all 2011-2012 evaluation data / and IEP information are current in WVEIS as they relate to the timeline report. o Indicator 8: Parent surveys are being distributed by our new contractor (Measurement Incorporated). Surveys are to be returned by August 31, 2012. Encourage parents to return the surveys (e.g., automated phone messages, emails, mailings etc.). 2. On-Site Monitoring Visits 2012-2013 o Letters were mailed from OSP on Thursday, July 19, 2012, to sixteen districts that will be monitored during the 2012-2013 monitoring cycle. Notice of the actual dates will be provided two weeks prior to the on-site visits. The monitoring notification should arrive to select districts within 2-3 business days. The letter invites the special education director to the Compliance Monitoring Training to be held on September 21, 2012, at the Embassy Suites in Charleston, WV. Districts to be monitored are encouraged to include an assistant superintendent and/or principal in the training. Other special education directors, especially guest monitors and RESA directors, are also welcome to register.
