The product's intended use is to spatially quantify the amount of uncertainty in the detection likelihood results. Model uncertainty quantifies the agreement of the detection likelihood model runs by calculating the standard deviation of the detection likelihood values on a cell by cell basis. This was done by running the same model 100 times, each time using only a random subset of the data. With 100 different subsets chosen the model created 100 different resulting surfaces which, when overlaid, showed differing amounts of variation at each pixel location. Hence, at each pixel the 100 different model results were compiled and an average and standard deviation were calculated. These standard deviations, when plotted for each grid cell nationwide, comprise the uncertainty surface. Cells showing a high standard deviation are considered to have relatively high levels of uncertainty, and similarly areas of low standard deviation are considered to have relatively low levels of uncertainty. For display purposes and ease of interpretation the standard deviation values were partitioned into three classes of uncertainty using equal breaks (Table 1). Purpose: The product's intended use is to spatially quantify the amount of uncertainty in the detection likelihood surface results. Emerald Ash Borer Detection Uncertainty 2013 Surface Modeling datasets: EAB Positives 2013– EAB trap catches and visual detection within the U.S. from 2002 to 2013, referred to as the “EAB presence-only” dataset. The EAB presence-only dataset contains approximately 8,000 EAB positive point locations within 19 states and 377 counties. Acquired and compiled from APHIS PPQ and state cooperators. Input Variables: Elevation- Digital Elevation Model (DEM 30m) from National Elevation Dataset (NED) resampled (bilinear interpolation) to 1km resolution and converted from meters to feet. Distance to Rest Area- Euclidean distance from Rest Areas (POI Factory 2012 http://www.poifactory.com/node/14656). Rest Area point locations were identified as potential introduction locations. Traffic Volume- Traffic Volume point locations, from across the U.S., were compiled from TrafficMetrix and used to interpolate a Traffic Volume raster using simple variable distance kriging. Drainage Index- Drainage Index is based on soil taxonomy and drainage classes from SSURGO and S TATSGO soil data.Soil drainage index is based on soil taxonomy and drainage classes from SSURGO and STATSGO soil data (Schaetzl et al. 2009). Road Density-Developed from rasterized 2003 Tele Atlas Dynamp Transportation v. 5.2 layer for each state at 100m. Density was calculated by summing the number of 100m road pixels within a 1 km pixel. Housing Density- Housing density data developed by Theobald (2005) using the 2000 U.S. census data. Moisture Surplus/ Deficit- 1, 3, 5 Year moisture surplus and deficit for 2010 developed by Frank Koch (2011) from PRISM climate data (Koch 2011). Distance to Campground- Euclidean distance from campgrounds identified by federal and state cooperators. Campgrounds were identified as potential introduction locations. Urban Areas- Urban areas within the ash range identified as having a population greater than 100 persons per square mile from the 2000 census (Withrow 2010). Position Index- Position index is a terrain index ranging from 0 (flat areas) to 100 (ridge tops). Low values represent valley bottoms. Position index is generated on a 7x7 kernel and scales the mean elevation to the surrounding elevation to separate lowlands from uplands. Distance to EAB Positives- Euclidean distance to all known EAB positive locations from all years prior to 2013. The distance to positive EAB parameter acts as a dispersal kernel in the model.
