ABOUT the Activate Schools Program The Activate Schools program is Activate Good’s campaign to integrate service and leadership education at the academic level into high schools. Through Activate Schools, we partner with local high schools to offer a Community Leadership & Service elective class. The class teaches youth ages 14 – 18 about community issues and volunteerism, empowers them to develop personal leadership skills, and gives them hands­on practice in volunteerism and leadership by guiding them to design and execute their own service project ideas to benefit their communities. Part­Time Contract Position: Activate Schools Program Coordinator The Activate Schools Program Coordinator will work with Activate Good’s Director, board members, IT consultant, interns, and volunteers to coordinate and expand our Activate Schools program. The Program Coordinator will oversee day to day program activities (classroom check­ins, teacher training, and evaluation of class success), and also assist with the development and expansion of the program. This includes assisting in updating course materials and evaluation systems based on teacher and expert feedback, establishing and nurturing relationships with new local high schools, and executing action steps to generate revenue for the program­­including but not limited to conducting outreach to institutions outside of our service area to market and sell the curriculum. Responsibilities The Activate Schools Program Coordinator will become an expert on our program’s Leadership & Service curriculum. (S)he will collect teacher and expert feedback on curriculum materials and oversee any needed updates to course materials. (S)he will work with the Activate Good Director, board, and other team members to develop and enhance program and course evaluation materials. (S)he will work with the Director to generate revenue to support the Activate Schools program through the marketing and sale of the curriculum and curriculum services to institutions outside of our geographical service area. Under the umbrella of these tasks, the Program Coordinator will also: ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● ● Attend the National Service Learning Conference in Washington, DC from April 9­12, 2014 to establish contacts and leads through which to market the Activate Schools Leadership & Service curriculum. Information at http://servicelearningconference.org/2014/ ○ Attend the 2015 National Service Learning Conference (Location and Dates TBA) Work with the Activate Good team to develop branding, marketing strategies and materials for the program, including curriculum sales materials. Prepare curriculum materials for sale. Represent the Activate Schools program at meetings, workshops, or other events, and conduct presentations as needed. Work with the Activate Good team to launch an online platform to sell curriculum materials. Conduct outreach / curriculum sales to meet annual sales goals. Launch “curriculum customization” services for schools outside the Triangle who need assistance tweaking the curriculum to their specific needs / schedules as an added revenue source to meet annual revenue goals. Work with the Activate Good team to improve the online teacher support portal to offer supplement curriculum materials. Work with the Activate Good team, possibly including an Evaluation Consultant, to assess program evaluation methods, recommend improvements based on teacher / participant feedback, and integrate improvements and add evaluation strategies that track multi­year student outcomes. Train teachers at existing partner schools on new evaluation method and integrate new evaluation system into curriculum for use in Fall 2014. Work with the Activate Good team to design / put together marketing materials for 2015 curriculum customization services. Establish relationships with additional local high schools that may offer the class in the 2015 ­ 2016 school year. Facilitate partnership agreements with new partner schools who will offer the Leadership & Service elective class at their schools in 2015­2016 / 2016­2017. Work with school to enroll students. Work with the Activate Good team to launch improved online teacher portal and membership services (free for local partnering schools) at a reasonable price to non­partner schools outside the Triangle. Train teachers from 4 new partner schools to offer the curriculum in 2015. Sales and marketing experience a plus. Must be comfortable representing Activate Good’s Activate Schools program at events, including public speaking and presentations. Must have proficiency with internet navigation and Microsoft Office. Must be comfortable communicating and working with diverse populations and clients. Must be very reliable in working with little supervision and held accountable for results. High School Diploma and Bachelor’s Degree required. Professional or volunteer experience in Education strongly preferred. Must have own phone and computer with internet access and be able to work from home as well as have transportation and the ability to work in an office setting. Occasional weekend availability required (advanced notice of weekend events will be given). Contract This position is a 2­year contract with a possibility of extension. Schedule The weekly schedule is flexible. Time to be spent per week is estimated at 18 hours (with the exception of travel to the annual National Service Learning conference), but some flexibility is required.
