This Fall there is big news from Naxos Music Library. They have added Sony Classical and Harmonia Mundi,
two important CD labels. Having these labels available online frees up funds for CD purchases of more highly
specialized music and for CDs by top artists who perform on other labels, so you get the best of both worlds.

Sony Classical and Harmonia
Mundi are the newest labels
to join our online audio
streaming database, Naxos
Music Library (NML). Sony
Classical boasts some of the
top performers of the twentieth century in definitive
performances. Harmonia
Mundi specializes in early music but also includes
modern works, such as Symphony No. 4 by Kevin
Puts, who won the Pulitzer Prize for music last year
for his opera, Silent Night.
New Computers
The three Lower Level Mac Computers that have
Finale have been upgraded for a faster user
experience. In addition, the four PCs nearby continue
to serve our students well. You may also check out
MIDI controller keyboards and quality headphones
from the Music Collection Counter.

and photos of the vocal cords in healthy and
diseased states. Though the focus is on speech
pathologies and treatments, singers would do
well to know how their instrument works and
how to keep it healthy. Vocal “faults” are also
discussed.

Video games would be hollow and boring without their
soundtracks, perhaps even more so than films. In the
beginning of video gaming, the music consisted of
simplistic midi-created jingles that sped up as the game
progressed.
Today’s video games incorporate more artistry on all
fronts, including music. Composers for film also
compose for video games and vice versa. Real
orchestras play the scores for the games and CDs of
the games’ scenes are released with as much anticipation as the games themselves. The academic world is
taking notice, as evidenced by the following:
