Greetings musicians! Fall Semester is in full swing, with a few changes and a lot of new materials in the
Music Collection. We now have a new book shelf for you to peruse the latest titles. New scores include
music by women and the latest published works of currently active composers. Listening assignments
now stream through Naxos Music Library or Mediasite, so we have opened up the listening room for more
Individual study.

When the Music Listening Center
opened, its streaming audio system
was cutting-edge technology.
Course reserves and library
recordings streamed through a
computerized network. From a
bank of audio equipment behind the
circulation desk, students in carrels
in a quiet area of the library could
listen to their assignments. With
the incorporation of online
technology, most assigned listening
is now on Mediasite or Naxos Music Library.
The old carrel room now sports two
study tables and two carrels with CD
players. CDs that used to be
streamed to carrels are now available
for short-term check-out in the
library.

For many of our students, songs
in English are foreign-language
songs so this collection is a
welcome addition to the art song
repertoire. Composers include
Benjamin Britten, Henry Purcell,
Roger Quilter and Rebecca
Clarke. And in what I hope will
be a new trend: each song indicates whether it is in the original
key, and if not, it indicates what
the original key is. It is available
in high and low editions.

That has now been rectified, and
