ConocoPhillips’ vision has been to connect employees globally to help secure the company's future. The implementation of a global knowledge management (KM) system, with significant Enterprise 2.0 components, has helped achieve new levels of employee productivity and enhanced business value. During the face-to-face sessions, Ranta will review the history of the KM program and share how managing knowledge has helped transform business processes and enable productivity and innovation. Dan Ranta as the director of Knowledge Sharing at ConocoPhillips is accountable for the strategic implementation of knowledge sharing for the 31,000-person integrated oil and gas company a top-20 global company in total revenue terms. Ranta led a small team charged with developing and implementing a knowledge sharing strategy for the Exploration and Production part of the business then later joined ConocoPhillips in his current role – making a complete transition to lead the effort he began as a consulting practice leader. Today, Knowledge Sharing spans the entire enterprise and has grown to include more than 130 Networks of Excellence (NoEs) enabled with the world-class processes and infrastructure needed to support them. The focus is on business transformation that leads to additional business value. From 2004-present, knowledge sharing documented $100s of millions of estimated cash flow (additional business value) for ConocoPhillips. In 2009, the KS Team implemented OneWiki – an enterprise-wide version of Wikipedia. From its inception the OneWiki has been a “game-changer” for employees of all generations to provide contextually based know-how. Before joining ConocoPhillips, Ranta served as practice leader of Schlumberger Business Consulting, specializing in fields related to knowledge, content management and portals. Previously, he led the KM consulting community for IBM Consulting Services, where he conducted multi-faceted knowledge management-related work including KM strategy, social network analysis, communities of practice, and design and implementation of portal structures. Earlier, he worked as Global Program Manager for Ernst and Young’s Center for Business Knowledge Ranta holds a bachelor’s in Business Administration and Spanish from Grove City College (Pennsylvania), and a master’s in Management from Kent State University (Ohio). He also completed a year of post-graduate work with New York State University in Paris, France. Finally, he is a huge Buckeye fan.
