____________ imprints. Limit to national level studies, not local histories, etc.
LANGUAGES
1) Modern __________ primarily; new editions of important classical Islamic texts in Arabic
2) Other languages for any major academic works on relevant topics published in _______
SUBJECT SCOPE, TYPE AND LEVEL (in priority order)
NOTE: We have three levels of selection that can be applied to the different subject areas: LEVEL 1)
Comprehensive level = all materials of scholarly worth from reputable publishers and authors. LEVEL 2) Research
level = all materials needed to support a graduate program in the subject, specifically materials needed for
faculty and Ph.D. research. LEVEL 3) Basic level = materials needed for undergraduate instruction in the subject.
SUBJECT SCOPE AND LEVEL
NOTE: Please limit to national level studies only -- not local histories, etc.
1) NEW REFERENCE WORKS (LEVEL 1)
a) Dictionaries (
b) Grammars
c) Literary histories and other reference works
d) Biographical dictionaries; new editions of classical reference works
e) General bibliographies and indexes, including ____national and regional bibliographies and subject
bibliographies and indexes relating to the topics listed below.
3) LANGUAGE, LITERATURE AND CULTURE (LEVEL 2)
This area and history represent the greatest interest and strength at the University of Illinois at UrbanaChampaign Libraries We would like to acquire:
a) New editions of classical Islamic literature (pre-20th century, CE). This is an important area and will build on
the already strong holdings of the University of Illinois at Urbana- Champaign Libraries in original sources.
b) Significant secondary studies of classical literature. These should adhere to high scholarly standards,
including bibliographies and indices. Such secondary criticism may be devoted to single author, a period or
theme, or general criticism (including historical surveys).
c) Modern literature. We realize that this is a difficult category to define. We do not need, and cannot afford, to
acquire every new novel, short story collection, or book of poetry. Essentially we would like to receive fiction
written by established authors and collections of poetry that fit the definition of collected works. We need to
maintain a solid, core collection of carefully selected, significant materials.
4) MODERN CINEMA (LEVEL 3)

Basic works on:
a) Contemporary economics, politics, social issues
b) International relations with the Middle East, regional issues, human rights, and women's issues.
