Watermelon Day PA/Closed-Circuit TV Scripts Two weeks before your upcoming Watermelon Day, start advertising over your schoolʼs Public Announcement system and/or Closed Circuit TV. Use some or all of the scripts found below or write your own and produce. Script #1 – Skateboarding Competition A reporter interviews skateboarding competitors and promotes Watermelon Day. For Closed Circuit TV – Marshall wears coat and tie and sits at news desk. Silena wears professional field reporting attire and carries microphone. Wheels and J. Slice dress in skateboard attire and carry skateboards. (See J. Slice costume for details.) ! Marshall: And thatʼs what your weather is looking like. Now, letʼs check in with Silena . . . Silena: Thanks Marshall. Weʼre here at the Annual Skateboarding Championship, and you can just feel the excitement in the air. Letʼs see if we can get an interview with some of the competitors. Hi, give us your name and your sponsorʼs name. Wheels: ʻSup. Hey, yeah, my friends call me Wheels and my sponsorʼs Really Cool Dudeʼs Totally Amazing Skateboard Shop. Silena: Well, OK . . . Wheels. Iʼm Silena Star with Late Breaking News. How do you feel about todayʼs competition? Wheels: Feeling really good Star. Pretty sure Iʼll take the trophy home . . . whoa, whatʼs up with that DUDE? Silena: Wow, Iʼm not sure. Hey Joey, can we zoom the camera in over there? (Noise of cameraman fumbling around, shuffling of papers.) It appears thereʼs a . . . WATERMELON . . . entering the competition. Letʼs go check him out. Silena: Excuse me . . . sir? J. Slice: Hey! Yeah, how can I help you? Nameʼs J. . . . J. Slice. Silena: Wow, yeah. You look like you might be a . . . watermelon? J. Slice: And so I am. (Laughs) Donʼt worry, I get it all the time. Whatʼs a watermelon doing here, right? Fact is . . . I LOVE to skateboard, surf, snowboard, rollerblade, you name it. Always on the move. (Insert name of school) is my ! "! sponsor . . . AND theyʼre having an awesome Watermelon Day on (insert date). Thereʼs going be lots of really cool contests, activities, and of course sweet, juicy watermelon. Wheels: Dude, Iʼm totally gonna win. A WATERMELON? Really? J. Slice: Uh, I doubt it. Iʼm SO READY. Iʼm 90% water so Iʼm always hydrated. Not to mention Iʼm packed with vitamins A, B6, and C. Did I mention I was a veggie? And you know what MOMS say about veggies. Silena: Yeah, theyʼre really good for you! Wheels: (Disappointed) Oh, dude, you sound really healthy . . . and fit . . . but youʼre a fruit, not a veggie. J. Slice: YES, I AM really healthy, and NO, Iʼm actually NOT a fruit. Iʼm a vegetable. Wheels: (Disappointed) DUDE, Iʼm so NOT gonna win. Silena: Thatʼs it for now. Weʼll keep you posted on the results. Script #2 – Watermelon Facts Josh and Lauren are two students talking after school about the upcoming Watermelon Day. Lauren has a know-it-all attitude in her voice. Josh: (Looks and sounds like heʼs in deep thought.) OK, itʼs green, red on the inside, really sweet, it has seeds, and you slice it up and eat it at picnics. Lauren: Hey Josh, what are up to? Josh: Thinking about everything I know about watermelon. I want to win a prize during Watermelon Day on (insert date). Lauren: Well, you need to get your facts straight. First of all, itʼs not just for picnics anymore. Some are yellow on the inside. There are actually seedless varieties, and you can do way more than just slice it up. And bet you didnʼt know you can even make smoothies out of it. Josh: Uh, well, no. ! #! Lauren: Thatʼs OK. Youʼll learn all about them on Watermelon Day – (insert date) with all of the activities, trivia, and contests. Itʼs going to be a really cool day. Josh: Guess youʼre gonna win the trivia contest, huh? Lauren: Iʼm planning on it. I canʼt wait. Oh, and weʼre going to have watermelon at lunchtime. Awesome! I canʼt wait for Watermelon Day on (insert date). Script #3 – Watermelon Mania Excited sister and cool brother discussing upcoming Watermelon day. For Closed Circuit TV, sister should wear a green and red outfit. Bro: (Sarcastically) Nice outfit sis. Whatʼs up with the (insert description of outfit)? Sis: (Turning around and modeling outfit.) Isnʼt SO SWEET? Itʼs for Watermelon Day. Get it? Bro: What day? Sis: Watermelon Day! You know, itʼs (insert date). For an entire day, everyone in school is going to learn about watermelon – how itʼs grown, the different kinds. Weʼll do watermelon activities. Weʼll eat watermelon . . . Bro: (Interrupting) It sounds like melon mania. Sis: Oh thatʼs an awesome name for my song! Bro: Huh? Sis: Yeah, Iʼm writing an entire song about the sweet, juicy treat! And thereʼs going to be (insert additional activities, contests, etc.) Bro: Sounds pretty cool – looking forward to chowing down on some watermelon. And I bet youʼre going to wear THAT outfit, right?
