BSNA BYLAWS
Article I - NAME OF ORGANIZATION
Section 1. The name of this organization shall be the Ball State Student Nurses Association (BSNA).
Article II – Purpose and function
Section 1. Purpose
A. To assume responsibility for contributing to nursing education in order to provide for the highest quality of
health care.
B. To provide programs representative of fundamental interests and concerns to nursing students.
C. To aid in the development of the whole person, including his/her professional role, his/her responsibility for
health care of people in all walks of life.
Section 2. Function
A. To have direct input into standards of nursing education and influence the education process.
B. To influence health care, nursing education and practice through legislative activities as appropriate.
C. To promote and encourage participation in community affairs and activities towards health care and the
resolution of related social issues.
D. To represent nursing students to the consumer, to institutions, and other organizations.
E. To promote and encourage students’ participation in interdisciplinary activities.
F.
To promote and encourage recruitment efforts, participation in student activities, and educational
opportunities regardless of a person’s race, color, creed, sex, lifestyle, national origin, age, physical or
mental disability, sexual orientation or economic status.
G. To promote and encourage collaborative relationships with nursing and health related organizations
Summary of current goals:

Contribute to a healthy learning/work environment within the School of Nursing and develop a
sense of community among members.
o Decrease negative competition among pre-nursing students. Nursing is based on
collaboration and we will support this.
o Host a welcome reception for all incoming students to the program
 Will invite faculty as well as other SON staff
 Will provide a folder of helpful hints for new students
 Will invite them to join BSNA and discuss benefits of membership
o Host a lunch for the graduating seniors during the Kaplan review
 We want to wish them well on their new journey
 We will ask for donations of their uniforms at this time to help incoming
students



Develop a community health project in which all students can participate
o Working with Blood-N-Fire Ministries in Muncie, IN.
o Discussing a walking program which will lead to a 5k run/walk as a fundraiser for the
ministry in the spring. The money will help fund a gymnasium for their building. We will
be doing this in conjunction with the Beta Rho Chapter of Sigma Theta Tau.
o This project will also help pre-nursing students establish volunteer hours.
Strengthening relationships with the pre-nursing students
o Attending meetings for the Nursing Living Learning Community and holding meetings in
or near Woodworth complex.
o Created BSNA buttons to be worn on the outside of book bags to help identify fellow
nursing students when out and about.
Increase communication among current and pre-nursing students
o Updated the BSNA web page
o Creating a folder on the Community of Baccalaureate Student page on Bb
