Our primary goals are to enhance student recruitment efforts, to increase student retention, and to encourage students to view their academic matriculation and social interaction as rewarding and beneficial. AASLRC encourages healthy student participation in campus life, student organizations, academic co-curricular programs, and community service. DESCRIPTION The African American Student Life Resource and Cultural Center (AASLRC) provides a wide range of support for African American student organizations and for individual students on campus. To monitor and track the participation of African-American Students in academi programs and educational initiatives on and off campus which provide opportunities for scholarly pursuits and recognition. Continue to develop programming which enhances the mission of our academic clubs and student organizations. Establish a chapter of the National Society of Black Engineers. Also, work with students to establish memberships in professional organizations and societies in their major fields of studies. ACTIVITY DATA Established a First Year Student Orientation Program which provides a Resource Directory, Newsletter, AASLRC brochure. Worked with Chancellor's Office and Enrollment Management on University Ambassadorship/Educational Partnership with Jack and Jill, Inc. of San Jose, for their Far Western Region Teen Conference. Established Blacks in Science (BIS) and National Science of Black Engineers (NSBE)and serve as Chapter Advisor. Worked with CSAS on Retention and Student Advising Summit with academic preceptors and counselors. Student Affairs 1
