History
In 1943, acting president W.E. Wagoner organized a Faculty Advisory Council
consisting of six (later nine) professors to advise the president of matters of
institutional policy. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, a number of faculty
members pushed for the creation of a faculty senate to replace the Faculty Advisory
Council. With support from President Emens, a new Constitution for Faculty
Government of Ball State Teachers College was created during the 1961-62
academic year and approved by the faculty and State Teachers College Board in June
1962. A year after university status was conferred on Ball State, a new senate
constitution officially changed the name of the body from faculty senate to university
senate.
