University Archives RG 4/5/5 Faculty Advisory Council, Records, 1943 – 62 3 boxes (0.8 cu. ft.) History In 1943, acting president W.E. Wagoner organized a Faculty Advisory Council consisting of six (later nine) professors to advise the president of matters of institutional policy. During the late 1950s and early 1960s, a number of faculty members pushed for the creation of a faculty senate to replace the Faculty Advisory Council. With support from President Emens, a new Constitution for Faculty Government of Ball State Teachers College was created during the 1961-62 academic year and approved by the faculty and State Teachers College Board in June 1962. A year after university status was conferred on Ball State, a new senate constitution officially changed the name of the body from faculty senate to university senate.
