Voluntary Life – Portability
• If an employee leaves UNI, they can continue
their voluntary term life coverage
– Rates will remain the same as the UNI group
rates for at least 12 months
LONG TERM DISABILITY COVERAGE (LTD)
LTD Insurance
• Eligibility:
– 20 or more hours a week with an appointment
for 9 months or longer
• Cost:
– Full cost is paid by UNI
• Coverage begins on date of hire
LTD Insurance
• Provides salary replacement if an employee is
totally disabled
– If approved, benefits would be 66 2/3% of salary
– Maximum monthly benefit of $6,666
• Benefits begin the later of 90 working days or
expiration of all accrued sick leave
LTD Insurance Retirement Protection Plan
• Continues retirement contributions and life
insurance for employees who qualify for
disability benefits and are enrolled in TIAACREF
– Coverage is automatic and the premium is paid
in full by UNI
FLEXIBLE SPENDING ACCOUNT
Pre-Tax Spending Accounts
• Allows employees to put pre-tax
contributions into a spending account to be
reimbursed for dependent care and/or noncovered medical, dental, and vision expenses
• Eligibility:
– 20 or more hours a week with an appointment
for 9 months or longer
• Maximum contribution $2,550
Dependent Care Spending Account
• Used to reimburse dependent care expenses
incurred
– Maximum contribution is $5,000 per year per
family
– Minimum contribution is $20 a month
• Expenses are reimbursed as funds accrue in
the account
– All expenses must be incurred by March 15
following the end of the calendar year
Health Care Spending Account
• Used to reimburse medical, dental and vision
expenses not covered by insurance plans
– Maximum contribution is $2,550 per year
– Minimum contribution is $20 a month
• Expenses are reimbursed when they are
incurred up to the annual contribution level
– All expenses must be incurred by March 15
following the end of the calendar year
• Debit Card ($12 annual card fee)

UNI Retirement Programs
• The State of Iowa requires all state employees to
participate in an approved retirement program:
– Iowa Public Employees Retirement System (IPERS)
or
– Teachers Insurance and Annuity Association/College
Retirement Equities Fund (TIAA-CREF)
• If you do not choose a retirement program, you will
default to IPERS

• A defined benefit program administered by
the State of Iowa
– UNI contributes: 8.93% of paid salary
– Employee contributes: 5.95% of paid salary
• Employee is vested after seven years of
service or age 65
TIAA-CREF
Teachers Insurance and Annuity
Association/College Retirement Equities Fund
• Defined contribution program
– UNI contributes: 6 2/3% of the first $4,800 of
earnings, 10% of all earnings over $4,800
– Employee contributes: 3 1/3% of the first $4,800 of
earnings, 5% of all earnings over $4,800
• Contributions increase to 10% for UNI and 5%
for employees after five years of participation
• Immediate vesting in contributions
Supplemental Retirement Annuity (SRA)
• Employees may elect to make additional pre-tax
or after-tax monthly contributions to a
Supplemental Retirement Annuity
• SRA’s are available through approved vendors
– After-Tax Roth Option through TIAA-CREF
• Contribution limit for SRA is $18,000
– Over 50 “catch-up” contributions: $6,000
