Faculty and students are provided access to the necessary technological infrastructure and human support to use technology efficiently and creatively to further education and professional preparation. Technology Staff !

Whether you need desktop support, classroom assistance, hands-on training, or assistance with integrating technology into your curriculum, help is just a phone call or an e-mail away! The College employs two full time employees, and a staff of graduate assistants and student workers responsible for the support and implementation of emergent technologies.

Dawn researches and provides a vision for the implementation of emergent technologies

into the fields of education and human services. In addition to oversight of technology

support and training for COEHS, she provides related workshops and one-on-one

consultations with faculty, and coordinates the Faculty Innovators Program. Her

technology specialties include technology integration, mobiles, Web 2.0 e.g. virtual

worlds, blogs, wikis, social networking, and etc., podcasting, online course development

and web design.

Josh and a team of qualified Graduate Assistants provide college-specific support for desktop and electronic classroom computing resources. He also oversees the daily functions of the Interactive

Multimedia Lab and the Technology Resource Center. Josh’s specific technology skills and interests include podcasting and vodcasting, multimedia authoring, video production and editing, screen casts and screen capture, web page development, and blogging.

COEHS provides a wide variety of dedicated services available to faculty, staff, and students that seek to enable them to use technology as another tool in their toolboxes for enhancing their teaching and learning experiences.

Instructional Development Services (IDS) is provided by the College as a catalyst for the transformation of teaching and learning through the inclusion of technology.

Our main goals are to:

• Assist faculty in the selection, implementation, and evaluation of

emergent technologies for their classrooms.

• Provide face-to-face events and on-line tools that promote cross-

curricular collaboration on the topic of teaching

with technology.

• Provide faculty and their students with substantial resources that

facilitate research, integration, use, and evaluation of emergent

technologies in their respective field.

To this end Instructional Development Services provides the following

services to all COEHS faculty, staff, and students:

The Interactive Multimedia Lab

The Interactive Multimedia Lab (IMM) provides justin-time training in a one-on-one or small group setting for students, faculty, and staff choosing to use emergent technologies in their teaching and learning.

We offer a highly effective facility for developing cross-platform multimedia projects such as, computer based instruction, multimedia authoring, mobile technologies, podcasting, CD-ROM and DVD ROM development, video

editing, web-page development, electronic presentation development, and the incorporation of media centric

Smart Technologies into teaching and learning.

The IMM lab offers the latest in hardware and software for dual platform creation. All computers are connected via

Ethernet to WIU’s network. An abbreviated list of commonly used software applications includes:

In addition to the state-of-the-art equipment housed in the IMM Lab, it is staffed with a knowledgeable training staff to guide you in the development of your multimedia endeavors.

The Technology Resource Checkout

The Technology Resource Checkout primarily serves COEHS faculty, staff, and students. It is also available to any students who are enrolled in the Teacher Education Program at Western.

These individuals, and COEHS departments can pay a fee of $20 per semester in order to check out technology for 48 hours at a time. Equipment available for check out in the TRC includes, but is not limited to:

Digital 8mm Camcorders

Digital Still Cameras Flip Video Cameras

We also have laptops available for students on a semester loan basis.

Payment Policies

Faculty, students, and staff wishing to pay for TRC services or register for modules must pay with cash or a check payable to Western Illinois University for the exact amount of the services or registration fee. Departments wishing to pay for the check out fee may arrange to use a DPA.

The Faculty Innovators Program http://www.wiu.edu/coehs/fi.php

The Faculty Innovators Program is a 24-month professional development program for faculty. Our mission is to create a cadre of technology "champions" throughout the COEHS who will mentor their fellow faculty members and raise the standard for technology integration in teaching and learning.

Applications are accepted each April. Please discuss your interest with your department chairperson.

Classroom Lab!

As a member of this college you will have the opportunity to teach in high-end electronic classrooms that contain the following capabilities:

Additionally you have the opportunity to reserve Horrabin Hall 111, a 30 seat classroom computing lab for courses that require standard computing resources. This lab is equipped with 30 Windows computing stations. These stations are installed with a wide variety of standard, and specific educational software packages. A sampling of the software available in this lab includes.

This lab also includes flat bed scanning stations for image and OCR scanning. This lab can be scheduled by any faculty member within the college by contacting Christie Carmack ( CA-Carmack@wiu.edu

) in the COEHS Dean’s

Remember, laptop carts can be checked out of the Technology Resource Center (309) 298-3076 for use in any of the classrooms. Our buildings feature wireless Internet Access which allows for the use of laptop computers and mobile devices in all of our classroom settings.

Electronic Classroom Training

Staff of Instructional Development Services provide a series of training

sessions for various electronic classrooms within the college prior to the

beginning of each Fall semester. Watch your WIU email for dates and

sign-up instructions. Additionally, you can set up one-on-one training for

a room of your choice by contacting Josh Butcher

).

Reporting Technical Difficulties

If you have a technology emergency in the classroom that you are assigned to teach in contact the

COEHS Dean’s Office (309) 298-1690 immediately so that one of the COEHS technology staff can meet you in

the room and provide assistance.

If an emergency is experienced after the hour of 4:30p.m. or on a weekend, contact (309) 298-2704.

If you experience non-emergency technology difficulties, please contact the University Technology

Support Center (309) 298-2704 to submit a work request ticket.
