I am looking for instructors or facilitators for several courses and workshops in our GVSU Public and Nonprofit Administration program and Masters of Public Administration program. Voluntarism and the Nonprofit Sector 3-credit undergraduate course (Monday evenings, Fall Semester 2013) A survey of voluntarism and the nonprofit sector in America. Historical development, policy questions, funding issues and trends of major subsectors (religion, education, health, social services, the arts) are examined. The sector’s interdependence with government and business and its basis in philanthropy and democracy are interwoven throughout the topics Strategic Planning and Management 3-credit graduate course (Monday evenings, Fall Semester 2013) This is a traditional 15 week course located on the downtown campus. The course description is: "Planning as a decision-making process, methods for defining goals in public and private planning programs, role of planning in policy formulation, planning for human environment relationships." Careers with Faith-based Organizations One-day, one-credit workshop (5 October 2013) Careers with Arts and Culture Organizations One-day, one-credit workshop (5 April 2014) These two workshops are intended for pre-career Master’s students interested in these areas to develop a career plan. Usually, these workshops are handled with the facilitator bringing in various professionals at various stages of their career to serve on discussion panels and as guest lecturers. On a long day, nothing should last too long before moving on to the next subject / presenter. A Primer on Tribal Governments One-day workshop (19 October 2013) This is a one-day workshop intended to introduce MPA students to tribal governments. What is there history and function? How do they relate to other local governments? Also included are aspects of cultural competency related to the First Nations. If you are interested and want more information, please contact me.
