S P A N I S H
As you probably already know, Spanish is the second language most widely spoken in the United States. Since, according the 2012 US Census Bureau there are over 38 million native speakers of the language and at least 6-
10 million who speak it as a second language, chances are that you will encounter a Spanish speaker throughout your career. In addition, it is the second most widely native language spoken in the world and the most commonly taught in American colleges and universities.
As a stand-alone major, Spanish will help you reach fluency and develop cultural and regional expertise of the three most important Spanish-speaking geographical areas: Spain, Latin
America, and the United States. As a second major or a minor,
Spanish would complement any concentration. As a Pathway in the Core, Spanish affords you the chance to make linguistic and cultural proficiency an attainable goal. Our carefully-designed program emphasizes travel abroad wherever your imagination takes you, be it Madrid, Cuba, or any other Spanish-speaking destination. Spanish at Marist will not only help you become fully bilingual, it will help you develop a global perspective.
What do you see yourself doing in four years? Whether it involves relating to the American public, or mapping out cross cultural or even international communication, being bilingual in Spanish will only help you get there faster and better.
As a student of Spanish at Marist you will work alongside professors committed to excellence in education and the pursuit of scholarship. You will have the opportunity to obtain internships and take courses here or abroad. You will take part in our vibrant curriculum.
Not sure where Spanish may take you? Here is a look at what our graduates are doing, after college. Refer to our program’s website for requirements and feel free to contact the faculty below.
