Caribbean Classic-Cacun, Mexico
Caribbean Classic Enters its Fifth Year in Cancun
The Caribbean Classic will kick off its fifth year at the Moon Palace Resort in Cancun,
Mexico in December 2010.
The tournament will feature from four NCAA DI women’s basketball teams and will be played
December 20 and 21, 2010.
Illinois State, Ball State, Nevada and Alabama-Birmingham are the teams headlining the event.
The Caribbean Classic is run by Fort Collins, Colo.-based Triple Crown Sports, which also organizes men’s college
basketball tournaments in Cancun. Triple Crown coordinates the Preseason and Postseason Women’s NIT as well.
Destination : Cancun, Mexico
Cancun, with its perfect blend of natural reserves,
archaeological sites and tourism attractions has
evolved in recent years to become a unique tropical
paradise. The island stretches 14 miles along the
west coast of the Yucatan Peninsula in the state of
Quintana Roo. Its beautiful beaches of white sand,
bathed by the unparallel turquoise Caribbean Sea,

Schedule and Location Information
The Cardinals will face Alabama-Birmingham (UAB) Dec. 20 at 3:30 p.m. Ball State is 1-1 against
Alabama Birmingham with the Cardinals winning their last contest over UAB, 77-68, in 2001-02. Ball
State’s second contest will be played against Nevada Dec. 21 at 1 p.m. This will be the first meeting
between the two schools.

Tamara Bowlie
• Former Ball State women’s basketball standout Tamara
Bowie signed a free agent contract with the Minnesota Lynx of
the Women’s National Basketball Association (WNBA) in 2008.
She is currently retired from the sport and resides in Ponce,
Puerto Rico.
• She is the Cardinals’ all-time leading scorer at 2,091 career
points, which ranks seventh all-time in Mid-American Conference history. Bowie was a two-time MAC Player of the Year
recipient (2001-02 & 2002-03) becoming the only Cardinal to
win the award multiple times. She was named Kodak/WBCA
Honorable Mention All-America three times during her career
as well as First Team All-Region three times.
• She spent the 2007-08 season in Israel, playing with Hapoel
Tel Aviv. She played in 13 of her team’s 21 games last season
and averaged 24.9 points and 12.5 rebounds per game. Bowie
was originally drafted in the 2003 WNBA draft by the Washington Mystics with the 36th selection.

Porchia Green is currently playing professionally
overseas in Thessaloniki, Greece for the team Paok.
The 2010-11 season marks Green’s second year
playing professional basketball. Last year Green
played for a team in Finland where they won the
Finish Cup and were league runner-ups. She was
player of the month for the month of November in
2009 and First Team All-Foreigner. Green averaged
18.0 points per game and 8.0 rebounds last season.
A two-time First Team All-MAC selection, Green was
also the 2009 MAC Player of the Year.
