WELCOME!
Marist International Programs (MIP) offers students the
opportunity to study abroad and to interact with a host
culture on a personal level. Students participate in the dayto-day adventures of living in a foreign country, and learn
how others from different cultures interact with their world.
CAN I STUDY ABROAD WITHOUT
KNOWING A FOREIGN LANGUAGE?
Yes. Most abroad courses are taught in English. If prior
language study is required, or if courses are taught in another
language, this is usually noted in the program description, or
in the individual course descriptions.
MIP offers a variety of program options in locations around
the globe: semester, academic year, short-term and more. Be
more than a tourist - experience what it means to live and
study abroad!
CAN I STILL GRADUATE ON TIME?
WHY GO ABROAD?
Overseas courses are formally selected and approvals sought
after the MIP application is accepted.

program offerings, sorted by geographic area.

Additional destinations and programs may be available
through petition. Petition instructions and guidelines are
provided on the MIP web site.
WHAT CAN I STUDY?
Students choose their courses with the help and approval of
their academic advisor and department chairpersons.
By identifying the type of program that you are looking for,
you can best meet your academic goals (e.g., program with
an internship, intensive language, science, or a liberal arts
based program).
Yes, but you must discuss your study abroad plan, program
selection, and course planning with your academic advisor
and receive his/her approval to apply for the program.
The “What to Know Before You Go” page on the MIP web
site provides a link to the MIP Course Planning & Approval
Form, and the MIP Study Abroad Handbook.
As you choose overseas courses you must ensure, through
your on-line degree audit, that your selections will fulfill
requirements for your degree. Discuss degree requirement
questions or concerns with your academic advisor, or the
Registrar.
SEMESTER/ACADEMIC YEAR ELIGIBILITY
To be accepted into MIP, applicants must meet the following
requirements:
•
•
•
•
Undergraduate standing (sophomore, junior or senior)
Be in good academic and disciplinary standing
Minimum GPA of 2.5 (higher for many programs)
Display maturity and responsibility in social conduct

FACULTY AND STAFF ABROAD
MIP works with Marist program advisors abroad and with
international offices at affiliated institutions to oversee the
administration of all programs. Overseas staff are responsible
for organizing the academic components of the program,
assisting students in adjusting to their new environment,
arranging student internships (if applicable), and housing.

SPECIAL NEEDS
If you are physically challenged, have a documented learning
disability or a medical condition that requires treatment, this
does not preclude you from studying abroad. However, please
make MIP aware of your situation so we can determined if
your needs can be accommodated at the site at which you
wish to study.
TRAVEL ARRANGEMENTS
Students make their own travel arrangements for semester
programs. MIP arranges travel (air and on-site logistics) for
short-term programs.
FINANCIAL AID
Marist College students should apply for financial aid as
they normally would through the Office of Student Financial
Services. Most forms of aid from the College can be used
for studying abroad, including federal aid. Speak with your
financial aid officer for specific information.
PRE-DEPARTURE INFORMATION
After your MIP application is accepted you will receive
access to a pre-departure web page. This page will provide
answers to most of your questions such as: overseas housing
arrangements, course approval and registration process,
passport and student visa applications, fixed and estimated
program costs, travel advice, health insurance, safety and
security advice, etc.
Credit is granted by Marist College. Courses are taught at
foreign institutions, or by faculty hired directly by Marist
College. All overseas courses are evaluated and approved by
faculty and administration at Marist. Students should meet
with their home campus advisors to determine how credits
will transfer to their individual degree programs.
APPLICATION DEADLINES
Apply early to ensure your application is completed before
the deadline. Please see the MIP web site for full application
instructions and a check-list of requirements.
Instructor recommendation(s) and/or academic advisor
approval(s) are required. Students are strongly advised to
discuss recommendation requests, in person, with instructors
and advisors before e-mailing requests for recommendation
letters.
SHORT-TERM PROGRAMS
Short-term programs offer students the opportunity to go
abroad during winter intersession, spring break or spring
attachment. Tuition charges for a spring break or spring
attachment course can be included in your spring semester
course load.
Short-term programs are open to freshmen, sophomores,
juniors and seniors in good academic and judicial standing.
Students interested in a specific program should speak with
the program director or MIP coordinator. Pre-requisites are
required for some programs. Final approval to enroll in a
program rests with the program director.
