GAMES AND EMERGING MEDIA
MISSION:
The Games and Emerging Media Program provides a strong theoretical and practical understanding of game design and developments, as well as the
cultural, historical, ethical, and social aspects of games and emerging media. The program fosters innovation, creativity, and design thinking, as well as
writing, research, and public presentation skills. The Games and Emerging Media program emphasizes the real-world application of design principles,
theories, and skills, and encourages students to pursue experiences beyond the classroom, through internships, conferences, and lab work, such as with
the Play Innovation Lab. The program prepares students for a variety of careers, such as in the fields of games, interactive media, web production, user
experience design, and software development.
The Games and Emerging Media program offers both a major and a minor. In the major, students choose between two concentrations: (1) Design, Writing,
and Culture, and (2) Technical Development and Programming. Students begin with a shared interdisciplinary foundation and then concentrate in the
technical aspects of game development, or the design and cultural aspects of games and emerging media. Within each concertation there is additional
flexibility. All students collaborate during their final year and work in teams to develop a portfolio of games and media.
Effective Date: August 31, 2015
