NCDPI has received several questions regarding the new standards and how they will be assessed beginning with the 2012-‐13 school year. For clarification, new standards will be taught in all content areas across North Carolina beginning with the 2012-‐13 school year. As a result, there also will be new assessments for 2012-‐13. The new assessments will be aligned to the new standards (Common Core State and NC Essential Standards) to ensure that the same set of curriculum standards are both taught and assessed in the classroom. You can reference the timeline for standards and assessments on the website at http://www.ncpublicschools.org/docs/acre/timeline/timeline.pdf.
