Dear Educator,
The North Carolina Department of Public Instruction (NCDPI) will be conducting Standard Setting in Raleigh, North
Carolina, for two to three days during the week of July 22–26, 2013. Standard Setting is a process where cut scores
for the achievement levels are established for the new READY EOG and EOC assessments.
NCDPI asks for nominations of teachers and curriculum specialists with expertise as general education teachers or
teachers of students assessed on NCEXTEND2 or NCEXTEND1 in:
Grades 3–8 English Language Arts
Grades 3–8 Mathematics
Grades 5 & 8 Science
English II
Algebra I
Biology
We are also seeking teachers and curriculum specialists with expertise in the areas of EC and ESL across all grade and
subject areas (above).
Ideally, nominees will have:
1. Recognized expertise in the content standards, and/or
2. Teaching experience at multiple grade levels within elementary, middle school, or high school (i.e., elementary
teachers taught at 3, 4, and 5, middle at 6, 7, and 8, etc.)
Nominations of teachers/curriculum specialists may be made by the following:
1. Administrator nominating candidate and submitting this form by June 7, 2013 via fax to 919-807-3699 or via email to
Betty.Barbour@dpi.nc.gov
2. Teacher/Curriculum Specialist self-nomination and submitting this form by June 7, 2013 via fax to 919-807-3699 or
via email to Betty.Barbour@dpi.nc.gov
(please confirm with principal or supervisor when self-nominating)
*Priority will be given to teachers/curriculum specialists who have confirmed nominations with
administrators/supervisor.
All attendees will be provided a stipend for attending the Standard Setting session (unless they are in school, in which a
substitute teacher will be paid), and Continuing Education credits. Reimbursement for travel costs including mileage,
lodging, and meals will be provided based on the per diem state rates.
During the Standard Setting meeting, participants will be asked to use their expert knowledge of the Standard Course
of Study (SCS) and the student population (students assessed on general, NCEXTEND2, and NCEXTEND1) to make
judgments about expected performance levels given READY EOG and EOC test questions. This process will result
in legally defensible recommendations for cut scores for the achievement standards. Significant importance is placed
on this work for North Carolina students and teachers. These recommendations are presented to the North Carolina
State Board of Education for approval.
Detailed information regarding the final dates of the training session, test security, reimbursements, and contract
expectations will be forthcoming. Thank you for your support of the Test Development program of NCDPI!
