Back rack your processing power. Maintain user working power.

Back rack your processing power.
Maintain user working power.
With Avocent’s Control Room Solution
Back rack, without holding back.
For most users, the thought of IT taking their processors
and towers off their desks is terrifying. Tell them, “No fear.”
There’s a savvy way to consolidate all those assets into one,
centralized, environmentally controlled and secure place…
while still making the end users feel like they have their very
own processor or processors at their disposal. We’ve taken
more than twenty years of success developing data center
optimization and endpoint control products and created a
unique, multi-touch solution for Control Room management.
The Challenge:
Physically separating users
from computers…without
them feeling like it.
Scenario One: Widely dispersed components, vast
distributed potential. You have a ton of computers sitting
around on desks. It’s a horde of distributed processing power
just waiting to be tapped. How do you back rack all those
processors, control allocation and connectivity on the fly,
while still enabling your users to have a productive, seamless
experience, even on multiple monitors and systems?
Scenario Two: Call Center/Emergency Response–Upper
management wants a clean desktop environment for hundreds
of users. You want management access to all PCs; the users
need fast, personalized workstations.
Scenario Three: High-Demand Training–You have multiple
instruction scenarios going on at multiple spots all day long
(such as in a flight training center). You want to stop rolling
servers and equipment to each training station and give testers
and users the ability to simply link into all the computer power
they need to run their simulations and lessons.
The Hurdles: While you must have simplified provisioning,
tight security control and a sure way to stay compliant to
policy and regulations, all your users must have rich peripheral
usage, varied processor availability, high-quality graphics and
computing that doesn’t lag.
The Answer:
An industry-leading digital
extension system
Avocent’s Control Room Solution is designed for desktop
administrators who need to physically separate the computer
from the user in the work environment without adversely
affecting worker productivity. The high-quality digital extension
system readily deploys over your LAN, offering point-to-point,
IP-routable extension at gigabit Ethernet rates. It also supports
a comprehensive range of peripherals including DVI video,
CD audio, USB mass storage, keyboard and mouse and other
USB devices.
No distance limitation–Since the solution is built on TCP/IP
over the LAN, even the highest quality video experience is not
affected by distance.
Improved access to best computing power–Users with
the highest computing needs can be reallocated to the latest
machines, thereby ensuring that they gain from the newest
hardware performance in high-powered applications. In
addition, the Control Room solution reduces the noise and
cooling requirements in the users’ work areas.
Audio and video quality maintained–CD-quality audio
is transported from the computer to the user with no loss
in quality. As for video, with the ability to extend up to dual
1920x1200 DVI, it’s rapidly being adopted as the extension
standard in the most demanding environments. With the
introduction of follow-mode, video will have the ability to
extend any number of 1920x1200 DVI video outputs from
a single computer.
USB support–Standard USB keyboard and mouse
peripherals can be extended from the computer over the
network to the remote user, without the use of any computer
drivers or software.
Improved security and virus controls–The computers are
situated remotely from the user, so the computer hardware and
the data stored on them is more secure. Plus, the introduction of
virus-infected files is more difficult and concerns of installation
of inappropriate software can be virtually eliminated.
Standard infrastructure–The solution is easily supported
using the existing skills in the IT group and does not require
non-commodity computing equipment, as is the case with
Thin Client.
AVOCENT SOLUTION: CONTROL ROOM
The tools you need to simply empower
your endpoint users, while giving
you centralized control.
Components
Avocent Control Room Solution
Based on gigabit Ethernet and highly optimized extension
technology, the Avocent HMX extender system solution
components provide the image quality and responsiveness
exceeding that of traditional analog KVM switching solutions.
In addition to near lossless video and snappy mouse response,
these third-generation, network-based products deliver
CD-quality audio and seamless extension of USB mass
storage devices.
HMX Extender System
The Avocent HMX digital workstation extender system
provides hardware-based digital desktop extension of
video, keyboard, mouse, USB mass storage and audio
signals. The HMX system solution allows users to back
rack digital workstations without impact to power-user
operations. The HMX Extender System can also be
integrated with fiber media adapters to extend the solution.
HMX Manager
The Avocent HMX Manager provides centralized
management and control of the HMX extender transmitters
and receivers, allowing them to serve as endpoints of
a high performance, LAN-based KVM appliance. This
solution provides uncompromised switched KVM access
to business-critical systems.
Why Go Digital: Quality,
reach, quantity and did
we say “quality”?
Lifts the distance limitation of 1000 feet –
Historically, AMX® switching system customers
were limited to copper environments. Today, the
HMX system allows full access to fiber infrastructures,
with virtually an unlimited number of users. We can
provide a step-by-step approach to migration from
analog to digital, helping you leverage your existing
investment while utilizing the latest technology.
Lets you use fiber infrastructures efficiently –
Don’t be limited to copper environments. Spread across
buildings, campuses, anywhere on IP, including over
fiber. Customers who are using gigabit Ethernet-to-fiber
media adapters can extend HMX systems across campus,
allowing media conversion and the routing of traffic
Remove the complexity of connections for more than
16 users – With HMX, once you have a network port, you
can add a user or target by connecting the user station or
TX to the network. It’s simple!
In Conclusion
Whether you need to offer users greater flexibility in multiple
processor access, get tighter control over your various IT
components or simply answer a need to centralize all of your
hardware in one place, Avocent’s Control Room Solution is at
the ready–ensuring lossless digital video, broad USB peripheral
support and no distance limitations. In other words, it’s a solution
that maintains a positive user experience while giving you the
management power you need.
