ABSTRACT
The observations of the standard astrometric catalog in the field of globular cluster Omega Cen will be used to evaluate the filter-dependent
component of distortion for Broad, Medium, Narrow and Quad WFC3/UVIS filters. In the previous cycles, the observations of Omega Cen through
Broad and Medium WFC3/UVIS filters (total of 14 UVIS filters) have shown that on the top of the WFC3/UVIS geometric distortion and the
lithographic mask pattern there are tiny low-scale distortions coming from irregularities in the optical properties virtually in all 14 UVIS calibrated
filters. Such distortion smaller than 0.1 pixel (equivalent to 4 milli-arc-seconds on the sky), over small extent of 50-100 consecutive pixels is acting
as high-order polynomial, but is large enough to be noticed while mosaicing images from sets of exposures with a range of dithers and the telescope
roll angles. To maximize the scientific output of WFC3/UVIS, these distortions should be calibrated and be corrected for. The corrections for such
low-scale distortions was formalized by constructing two-dimensional look-up tables fully covering each of the two WFC3/UVIS chips, as it
described in WFC3-ISR-2014-12 by Kozhurina-Platais. Thus, we proposed to continue the observations of Omega Cen through all not yet
calibrated UVIS filters. These observations will be used to verify the non-polynomial filter-dependent distortion. In addition to non-calibrated
filters, the observations through three UVIS filters F350LP, F475W filters and F390M filters will be used to improve the filters-dependent
component of distortion due to insufficient number of observation of Omega Cen in Cycle 20. Observations through the F606W filters, adopted as
reference filter, will be used to monitoring the optical and mechanical stability of the WFC3/UVIS through multi-cycle observations.
OBSERVING DESCRIPTION
The observations of globular cluster Omega Cen through three UVIS filters, F390M, F350LP, F475W will be observed in Visit 1 (4 orbits) with +/40 dither pattern (total of 7 exposures per filter) following by single exposure in F606W. The large dither pattern is desired to ensure the full
coverage of non-polynomial filter-dependent component of distortion, which have a ~50-100 consecutive pixels spatial variation over entire UVIS
chips. In addition to these three filters, there are one exposure through F218W filter following with exposure through F606W filter. To maintain
accurate pointing control, 2-guide star acquisitions are used. If suitable guide stars can be found, the same pair of guide stars are used for all 25
exposures.
In Visits from 2 through 7, the globular cluster Omega Cen will be observed through Wide (total of 5), Medium (total of 6) and Narrow (total of 14)
filters with single exposure in F606W filter followed by a single exposure for each of the 25 filters (on average, one orbit consists of 4-5 exposures:

always F606W + 3-4 chosen filters + always F606W, with the same pointing as first exposure in F606W). For each of these Visits will be used
postarg +/-40 dither pattern to enlarge the spatial coverage of Omega Cen observations. To maintain accurate pointing control, 2-guide star
acquisitions are used for each Visit. If suitable guide stars can be found, the same pair of guide stars would be useful for all Visits from 2 through 7.
In Visits from 8 through 12, Omega Cen will be observed through UVIS Quad filters with UVIS-QUAD aperture (standard combination of 4 Quad
filters) and with +/-40 dither pattern: one orbit per standard combinations of Quad filters. One orbit consists of 7 exposures: always F606W filter +
5 exposures through chosen combination of UVIS Quad filter with +/-40 dither pattern + always F606W exposure. To maintain accurate pointing
control, 2-guide star acquisitions are used for each Visit. If suitable guide stars can be found, the same pair of guide stars would be useful for all
Visits from 8 through 12.
Observations of Omeg Cen through F606W filter with different pointing and HST roll-angle which will be changed over all period of Cycle 22, will
be used to keeping the continuous multi-cycle optical and mechanical stability
of the WFC3/UVIS.
