Nominations for the first annual North Carolina Innovator in Digital Learning
Recognition
Innovation and the use of education technologies in our public schools are priorities for our state if we
are to continue to grow and prosper in a global economy. Many of you are using innovations in digital
learning and integrating technology in your classrooms, schools and districts to ensure that every student
has the best possible learning experiences. We want to recognize your great work and share what you
are doing with your peers across the state and the nation. We invite you to nominate your NC public
school or district to be recognized as a North Carolina Innovator in Digital Learning by completing
the nomination information provided in this memo.
North Carolina public schools or districts reaching exemplary status will be highlighted for their
achievement by the Governor, the NC State Board of Education, and as part of the First Gentleman Bob
Eaves’s Celebrate NC (www.celebrate.nc.gov). Those schools, charters or districts recognized will also
be featured as models in digital learning across North Carolina and with national digital learning
organizations. Other recognition will include a local visit by state leaders, appearance at a State Board
of Education Meeting, reception at the Governor’s Mansion, and an opportunity to participate in a
virtual conference.

Please complete the nomination process outlined on the attached form by doing a self-assessment
on the North Carolina Digital Learning Progress Rubric, providing student learning outcome
data and a description of your overall program, including any partnerships you have with
companies or other organizations assisting with digital learning or technology. Please submit
this information online at http://it.ncwiseowl.org/resources/digital_learning. Please note that all
information is due by 5 PM on September 21, 2012.
A group of business leaders, policymakers and educators will review the nominations and, based
on your completed nomination information, determine those schools, charters and districts that
will be recognized for their progress towards innovation and digital learning.
