ABIO 335 Microbial Ecology Spring 2013 INSTRUCTOR: Dr. Garriet W Smith; Rm 203 SBDG Location: Rm 200; TTh 10:50-12:05 Lab: Th 3:05-5:45 Rm 213 Text: Microbial Ecology Course Level and Credit: Senior-level 4hrs Course Summary: Ecological principals, as they apply to microorganisms, will be covered in this course, as well as, evolution, biochemical communication and other factors related to how microorganisms adjust to and modify their environment. Examples of symbiosis and other evolutionary mechanisms will be considered in the context of infectious disease. Handout 1-2 3-5 6-9 10-11 12-16 Grading: Students will be chose two primary papers from the literature for class presentation. This will count 20% of the final grade. Approximately six discussion tests will count 10% each and the final exam will count 20%. The lab, will count 20% (everything listed before will be multiplied by .8) and will include projects in Microbial Ecology.
