Job Title: Research Intern Grade: 1 Department: Research Posting: Research Intern FLSA Status: Non-­‐ Exempt Type of Position: Part Time, Regular Reporting to This Position: N/A Reports To: Senior Research Associate Location: Washington DC JOB SUMMARY The Police Foundation is national non-­‐profit non-­‐partisan organization that consistent with its commitment to improve policing, and has been on the cutting edge of police innovation for over 40 years. The Police Foundation’s work is informed by available evidence, to increase public safety and strengthen communities. The Police Foundation conducts innovative research and provides on-­‐the-­‐ground technical assistance and to police, sheriff’s as well as engaging practitioners from multiple systems (corrections, mental health, housing, etc.), local, state and federal jurisdictions as it relates to police research, policy and practice. The Police Foundation offers two internship experiences: paid and unpaid internships. Unpaid internships are offered to students, generally, where a college or university exercises oversight over the internship program and provides educational credit for the hours spent on site during their internship experience. Paid interns receive $10.10 for the duration of their on-­‐site internship engagement. Interns will work on a variety of Police Foundation projects, to include quantitative and qualitative research projects and technical assistance efforts underway. Internships can be 3,6, or 12 months, depending on the candidates’ school schedules. ESSENTIAL DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES § Research information using online academic databases or other publications; § Proofread; edit documents; data entry and cleaning; § Support ongoing research projects and staff that are engaged in the research work; § Assist with data collection; designing charts, graphs and tables; § Compile annotated bibliographies; summarize research materials; § Help with preparation for research meetings, events or presentations; § Answer phones, and limited copying and/or filing. § Attend panel discussions, conferences, symposia, and other meetings. § Able to manage multiple projects simultaneously; § Excellent verbal and written communication skills; § Demonstrated experience in MS Office and Mac operating systems; § Strong project management skills and attention to detail; § Excellent interpersonal skills, including maturity, and the ability to work independently and in a team setting with a range of staff, including data-­‐driven researchers. EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS § Applicants must have at least a cumulative GPA of 3.0 (on a 4.0 scale) from a U.S. institution or equivalent from a non-­‐U.S. institution. Furthermore, applicants must be current students, recent graduates (within one calendar year), and/or must have been accepted to enter an advanced degree program (within the next year following internship semester). Non-­‐degree seeking students are ineligible. Most interns are at least seniors in the undergraduate level, although strongly qualified juniors (at the time of application) will be considered. § Graduate students are also eligible to apply. §

Letters highlighting the applicant’s writing, research, and/or language skills would be useful. Transcripts (unofficial copies are acceptable). The transcripts will be used to determine if the applicant has taken relevant course work.
