We are looking for students to work part-time during the fall or spring semesters and full-time during
the summer. For the fall or spring position, we ask for a commitment of a minimum of 15 hours per
week. For the summer position, we ask for a commitment of 40 hours per week for the full summer.
Legal Editorial Assistants perform a variety of assignments, which can include cite analyzing book
chapters, Shepherding cases, researching legal issues, analyzing new legislation, updating indexes,
and reviewing cross references. In this position, you will develop your legal analytical skills, improve
your ability to focus on important details, and learn varied substantive aspects of the law.
To succeed and be happy in this position, you definitely need an eye for detail and must have strong
legal analytical skills. Journal experience is preferred but not required. What we do is a LOT like
journal/law review work, but we have a robust training program for those who do not have that
experience.
You don’t have to want a life-long career in legal publishing to work as a Student LEA for JMP. The
skills you will use and learn at JMP are highly valued and sought after for almost any other legal
position you might later aspire to. (And it doesn't hurt that after working here, you will be associated
with the most reliable and helpful legal resources used every day by Texas lawyers and judges (i.e.,
