Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science After School Classes Program Overview: The S.T.O.M.P. program is a free program that is financially supported by the state of Minnesota to increase achievement for students who qualify for additional support through targeted services. Students qualifying for targeted services are given first priority when registering. Enrollment for remaining spaces will then be offered to all students free of charge based on remaining availability. Program Expectations: All participants in the S.T.O.M.P. after school program must follow Glacier Hills Elementary School of Arts and Science student expectations. Students will sign a behavior contract the first afternoon of classes. Regular attendance is expected! Please send a note if your child is unable to attend on a particular night. Mark Your Calendar: Classes meet Tuesday and Thursday afternoons beginning on January 11 and ending on March 10. Classes meet from 3:50-4:50. Program skip dates: Tuesday, February 8 and Thursday, February 10 Registration Details: When registering, please select a first and second choice. Class sizes are limited. All registrations must be received in the office by Friday, December 17. Transportation Information: Limited transportation is provided for the S.T.O.M.P. program. When completing the attached registration form, please be sure to clearly mark your transportation selection. Your child will only be allowed to ride the bus if a stop has been selected on the registration form. If your child is on the bus roster he/she will be put on the bus unless a note is received in the office indicating otherwise. Parent pickup is in the front lobby outside the office. Tuesday Offerings Comfy, Cozy Reading Club (Grade 1) Begin each class with a favorite read-aloud book. Then choose a book and curl up in a comfy space. The instructor will provide individual support to each student as needed. What a great way to end the school day! - Taught by Mrs. Lyons, First Grade Teacher Crazy for Card and Dice Games (Grades 1-2) Playing card and dice games is a great way to spend a snowy day, to entertain friends and family and to practice math skills. Sign up with friends and challenge them to Kings in the Corner, Uno, LRC (Left-Right-Center) and more. Make math fun! - Taught by Ms. Flahavan, Second Grade Teacher Moving Mathematicians (Grade 4) Do you enjoy playing kickball? Tag games? Basketball? Do you enjoy measuring? Calculating? Adding, subtracting, multiplying and dividing? If so, Moving Mathematicians is the class for you. This class keeps both the mind and body active by incorporating math skills with gym activities. See you on the court! - Taught by Ms. Hosek, Fifth Grade Teacher Photography Fun (Grades 3-5) Grab a camera from the lab and prepare to learn the basics of digital photography. Investigate the art and science behind photography while experimenting with your creative insights. - Taught by Ms. Arrigo, Special Education Teacher Tuesday Offerings Cont. Pottery (Grades 3-5) Transform yourself into a potter. Design and create pottery of various styles and shapes while extending your mathematical thinking. The process will require that you apply technical knowledge of shape, angle and measurement to each piece of work. These concepts will be intentionally taught and embedded throughout the class meetings. - Taught by Mrs. Ollhoff, Instructional Assistant Wild About Writing (Grades 2-3) Calling all second and third grade authors! Come creatively prepared to design your own comics, or family newspaper on the computer. Craft a greeting card or make a poster. - Taught by Ms. Nielsen, Technology Specialist “X” Marks the Spot - Geocaching (Grades 3-5) Learn how to read and use a GPS device while thinking like a social scientist. Compile a variety of artifacts that will be discovered throughout the building and grounds of Glacier Hills. These artifacts will be in small hidden caches.
