DEAN’S RESPONSE
Planning and Review Committee
M.S. and Ed.S School Psychology
College of Education, Health and Human Sciences
2013
Recommendations for the Program Director:
Issue/Concern:
1. Work with key faculty to review and possibly revise program research requirements to ensure timely
completion of Ed.S.
2. Work with department chair to hire needed faculty to ensure renewal of NASP accreditation.
3. Ensure during facility changes the integrity of process and handling of assessment materials is
maintained.
Response from Program Director:
1. A moderate program revision in 2011 to the School Psychology program added an additional
“capstone” option for students, in addition to the Ed.S thesis requirement. Students may now choose
between an EdS thesis and an applied Action Research project. The intention of this revision is to
create greater flexibility for students to select projects that best match their professional goals, thus
expediting their completion of projects (which currently serve as the primary barrier to program
completion).
2. The college and school have been supportive in dedicating the position to the program, and working to
complete a faculty search in as timely manner as possible.
3. Program faculty have been communicating directly with SOE director and chair, dean and associate
dean, in an attempt to highlight both the functions and the critical importance of these lab spaces.
They have been responsive and are working to find reasonable solutions.
Recommendations for the Department Chair:
Issue/Concern:
1. Work with program director to hire needed faculty to ensure renewal of NASP accreditation.
2. Due to the imminent relocation of school psychology faculty, Graduate Assistants and Resource
Library, it is imperative to the function of the program (and two others) to locate Graduate Assistants in
the same workplace as the Resource Library. Planning should consider the importance of the relationship
between all of these elements, as this is critical to the success of the program. It is also noteworthy that
the Graduate Assistants are trained in the specifics of each assessment tool and not only assist students
but often provide needed instruction to School Psychology, School Counseling and undergraduate special
education students.
Response from Department Chair:
1. A search committee has already been formed and a search is currently underway for a School
Psychology/School of Education faculty member. Consultation with the Program Director will continue
to occur related to staffing needs for the School Psychology Programs.
2. Considerable consultation has occurred during the 2012-2013 school year to understand the needs of
School Psychology related to Graduate Assistants and the Resource Library. Those consultations have
involved the Director of the School of Education, CEHHS Associate Dean, and CEHHS Dean. The
Department Chair will continue to consult with the Program Director and Administration. In addition, the
Department Chair will advocate for spaces to serve the needs of the School Psychology Programs as plans
for relocation and the allocation of spaces are determined.
Recommendations for the Director of SOE and the Dean of CEHHS:
Issue/Concern:
1.Work with program director to hire needed faculty to ensure renewal of NASP accreditation.
2.Due to the imminent relocation of school psychology faculty, Graduate Assistants and Resource
Library, it is imperative to the function of the program (and two others) to locate Graduate Assistants in

the Graduate Assistants are trained in the specifics of each assessment tool and not only assist students
but often provide needed instruction to School Psychology, School Counseling and undergraduate special
education students.
Response from Director and Dean:
1.The CEHHS Dean and SOE Director approved a search for a SPSY faculty member. Assuming a
successful search, a new tenure track faculty member should be hired for the Fall 2013 term.
2.The CEHHS Dean and SOE Director will work with the CEHHS Associate Dean to plan for the unique
space needs of the School Psychology program graduate assistants and resource library. It is important to
note that we are working with other programs and university offices to accommodate the needed spaces
necessitated by the impending relocation of SOE programs out of McCalmont Hall.
