The organization was founded in 1931 as the Central States Speech Association with the goal of promoting the communication discipline in educational, scholarly, and professional endeavors. In 1989, the organization changed its name from Central States Speech Association to Central States Communication Association. To reflect the organization's official name change, the title of the organization's journal was also changed from Central States Speech Journal to Communication Studies beginning with Vol. 40, No. 1 (Spring 1989). The association isgoverned by an Executive Committee and is legislated by its constitution and by-laws. The association's membership includes the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas, Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. CSCA has 22 Interest Groups, Caucuses, and Sections that promote particular communication areas. The association hosts a yearly convention within the 13 membership states, maintains a website, publishes a newsletter three times yearly, and publishes the journal Communication Studies on a quarterly basis. It was not possible to recover any information from several of the floppy disks. Video files are in Quicktime Video (.MOV) format. Processing Information - Page 29 - Central States Communication Association records SPEC.096 Series 6: Born digital records, 1994-2000, 2011 During processing, the digital files were transferred off of 3.5" floppy disks to a FAT32 formatted USB 2.0 flashdrive using a computer running the Mac OS X operating system. The files were then transferred to the server storage space via a computer running Windows 7. Floppy disks and CD - Page 30 - Box Disk 5 1-30
