Administrative History
The Central States Communication Association (CSCA) is a professional, academic organization of
primary and secondary school teachers, students, college and university professors, and communication
professionals. The organization was founded in 1931 as the Central States Speech Association with
the goal of promoting the communication discipline in educational, scholarly, and professional
endeavors. In 1989, the organization changed its name from Central States Speech Association to Central
States Communication Association. To reflect the organization's official name change, the title of the
organization's journal was also changed from Central States Speech Journal to Communication Studies
beginning with Vol. 40, No. 1 (Spring 1989).
The association isgoverned by an Executive Committee and is legislated by its constitution and by-laws.
The association's membership includes the states of North Dakota, South Dakota, Nebraska, Kansas,
Oklahoma, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa, Wisconsin, Minnesota, Michigan, Indiana, and Ohio. CSCA has 22
Interest Groups, Caucuses, and Sections that promote particular communication areas. The association
hosts a yearly convention within the 13 membership states, maintains a website, publishes a newsletter
three times yearly, and publishes the journal Communication Studies on a quarterly basis.

Series 6: Born digital records, 1994-2000, 2011
Scope and Contents
This series contains born digital documents, videos, and other files created by Central States
Communication Association between 1994 and 2011. Included among these digital records are nine oral

Physical Characteristics and Technical Requirements
Digital files were originally transfered on 3.5" floppy disks formatted for Apple or IBM computers.
The majority of the digial files in this series were created on an Apple Machintosh computer using file
formats that are now obsolete and therefore inaccessible using a current Microsoft Windows operating
system. It was not possible to recover any information from several of the floppy disks. Video files are in
Quicktime Video (.MOV) format.
