Quiz/Exam Reaction (QER) Description and Grading Rubric An important part of the learning process has to do with honestly reflecting on and critiquing your own work. Quiz/Exam Reactions are a way to close the loop in the learning process. Often, students get quizzes or exams back and never look at them again. QERs will force you to look over your quizzes and exams and critique your own work by completing the following tasks. Corrections (5 points) Correct all of your mistakes, even small ones, as best you can Attempt/correct the bonus (if applicable) a) b) c) d) e) f) g) Reflection (5 points): The questions below are meant to serve as guide. Don't feel obligated to answer them all for every QER. Did you feel confident while taking the quiz/exam? What do you feel led to the mistakes you made? Were you surprised that you get a particular problem correct? (if applicable) Did you feel prepared for this quiz/exam? How did you prepare? How does this quiz/exam connect to your progress in this class in general? With respect to your work on this quiz, what’s your plan to improve or maintain? What do you think the goal(s) of this quiz were? Do you have any questions for me? Include them where appropriate. For quizzes, the QER should be done on the quiz itself (on the back or alongside the problems in a different color). For exams, the QER can either be done on the exam itself or you can attach separate sheets. Important note: If you miss a quiz/exam, you cannot do the QER for it. Your grade will be based upon your effort and the completion of the assignment. This is meant to be a chance to learn from your mistakes and take a good hard look at your strengths and weaknesses. The QER does not affect the actual quiz grade. Each QER is worth 10 points. Points will only be deducted if you neglect to complete the tasks above thoughtfully. If you lose points, you can resubmit the QER for full credit as long as you do so by the next class. QER’s are due one week after the quiz or exam is handed back. If you miss the class when it is handed back, you’ll have significantly less time to complete it. As with all assignments, you can request an extension in person or via e-mail before the deadline. 1
