Geometry Measurement Project Unit: Similarity Objective: Students will be able to find the height of objects using similar triangles and proportions. Directions: 1. Students choose their own groups of three a. 1 Recorder: This student is responsible for sketching a drawing and recording all of the measurements needed for each object b. 2 Measurers: These two students are responsible for obtaining all the measurements needed for the problem 2. Students will measure all the possible dimensions of the similar triangles 3. Students will develop a proportion to find the height of the object 4. Each student will make a final drawing of each object that was measured and the similar triangles created. The drawing will include all of the labeled measurements and work shown for finding the height of the object. (Include a drawing of the object being measured, and the group member that was used to create the similar triangles.) 5. Please give all of your dimensions to the nearest inch. When you provide your answers, give your answers in whole feet, with the remaining whole inches (i.e. 6’2” for 6 feet 2 inches) Objects to be measured: 1. One light pole 2. The top of one club banner of your choice (tell me which banner you chose on your drawing) 3. The top of the “Ridge Lines” sign 4. The top of the exit sign by the front doors Geometry Measurement Project Unit: Similarity Objective: Students will be able to find the height of objects using similar triangles and proportions.
