9.5­9.6 Factoring
Objective:
Be able to factor a quadratic trinomial. FACTOR: opposite of distributing!
Always look for a GCF FIRST!!

Factoring
Steps:
1. Look for a GCF.
2. Find what multiplies to get "a" times "c" and adds to give you "b"
3. Write the trinomial in expanded form (with 4 terms)
4. Factor GCF out of first two terms
5. Factor GCF out of last two terms (parentheses should be the same!)
6. Factor out GCF (Make your "double bubble")
7. Check your answer!
