Campus Violence Prevention Project Women’s and Gender Studies College of Social and Behavioral Sciences Violence Prevention and Intervention Curriculum Institute 2010 Call for Proposals The Campus Violence Prevention Project in collaboration with Women’s and Gender Studies and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences announces the availability of funding for $1,000 awards to tenured and probationary faculty to participate in a Violence Prevention and Intervention Curriculum Institute held in conjunction with the Dalai Lama May, 2010 visit. The purpose of the institute is to provide probationary and tenured faculty from across the UNI campus with a faculty development opportunity to learn techniques and develop course materials supporting the infusion of violence prevention and intervention units into existing courses. The institute will also serve to create a network of faculty who are interested in violence prevention and intervention to support the launch of UNI’s Center for Violence Prevention and Intervention in January 2011. Included in the institute will be a workshop on educating students to be leaders in violence prevention facilitated by Jackson Katz (founder and developer of the Mentors in Violence Prevention Project) and Alan Heisterkamp (Waitt Foundation for Violence Prevention). The institute will be led by Annette Lynch (Professor and Director of Campus Violence Prevention Project) and Phyllis Baker (Professor of Sociology and Director of Women’s and Gender Studies). Criteria for Application - Must be tenured or tenure-track UNI faculty Provide a proposal of no more than 2 pages outlining your proposal for violence intervention and prevention course material Be willing to make a presentation of newly developed materials to the institute Must be willing to commit to full attendance, May 19-22, 9:00 a.m. – 2:30 p.m. Provide an up-to-date abbreviated CV of no more than 2 pages Deadline for applications is Friday, February 19 at noon. Selection Process The process of selection will be competitive and be done by a committee to include the directors of the institute, the CSBS dean, and a representative of the Provost’s Office.
