2010 Call for Proposals
The Campus Violence Prevention Project in collaboration with Women’s and Gender
Studies and the College of Social and Behavioral Sciences announces the availability of
funding for $1,000 awards to tenured and probationary faculty to participate in a
Violence Prevention and Intervention Curriculum Institute held in conjunction with the
Dalai Lama May, 2010 visit. The purpose of the institute is to provide probationary and
tenured faculty from across the UNI campus with a faculty development opportunity to
learn techniques and develop course materials supporting the infusion of violence
prevention and intervention units into existing courses. The institute will also serve to
create a network of faculty who are interested in violence prevention and intervention to
support the launch of UNI’s Center for Violence Prevention and Intervention in January
2011. Included in the institute will be a workshop on educating students to be leaders
in violence prevention facilitated by Jackson Katz (founder and developer of the
Mentors in Violence Prevention Project) and Alan Heisterkamp (Waitt Foundation for
Violence Prevention). The institute will be led by Annette Lynch (Professor and Director
of Campus Violence Prevention Project) and Phyllis Baker (Professor of Sociology and
