He/She has been absent without excuse for _________ days. A record of his or her attendance at school is attached. If there is a valid excuse for your child’s absence, please notify the school immediately at (_____)_____________________. As a parent, you are obligated to compel the attendance of your child at school pursuant to Minnesota Statute 120A.22. Parents who fail to meet this obligation may be subject to prosecution under section 120A.34 and this letter serves as notification required by that section of the law. Alternative educational programs and services may be available to your child if you wish, and you have the right to meet with school personnel to discuss solutions to your child’s truancy. If your child continues to be truant, he/she may also be subject to juvenile court proceedings under Chapter 260C. If your child is subject to court proceedings, he/she may be subject to suspension, restriction or delay of your child’s driving privilege pursuant to Section 206C.201, and it is recommended that as a parent or guardian, you accompany your child to school and attend classes with your child for one (1) day.
