Objective: To create a game!!! You will work in a group of no more than 4 people to design a board game that can be used to help you and other students review for the final exam. You need to come up with a concept for the game, design a playing board, rules for scoring, questions cards, rules for play, etc. Grading Criteria for Create A Game: The game should be designed to end with a winner after about 20-25 minutes of play. Movement around the board should be controlled by some sort of demonstrated knowledge of the material covered in class (remember, we did not cover all of the material in the book). Each group will be responsible for the material from one chapter. This chapter will be assigned to the group by Ms. Shaw. Your choice for a group is due by the end of the class period on Wednesday April 18th (period 5) or Thursday April 19th (period 4). At this time I will assign each group the chapter they will be responsible for covering in their game. Originality 5 points The game should either be a completely original concept or an interesting math version of an existing game. Rules of Play 5 points This should start with an overview of how to play the game followed by a list of the rules. The rules should have a lot of detail, be easy to follow, have no loopholes that can make it easy to cheat, and cover all aspects of the game from how to start, score, and win. This needs to be typed. Game Board and Box 10 points The game board and box itself should be attractive with pleasing colors and easy to follow direction of play. Your board must be an original creation. You cannot take the board out of an existing game and use that. Make sure your board fits inside the box! Game Pieces & Questions 15 points The game should be neatly constructed, have no misspelled words and should exhibit care and effort in its design and completion. Questions and answers should have a varying level of difficulty and there should be no mathematical errors (don’t forget to include a way for the players to check their answers to your questions). You will turn in a separate sheet of paper that has all of the problems from your question cards worked out with all work shown. Interest Level 10 points The game should be interesting to the players, fun to play, and be challenging enough that it presents players with difficult questions. Job Description Page 5 points When you turn in your project each member of your group will need to turn in a separate job description page. This is a description of who was responsible for what part of the project (please describe what everybody’s job was including your own). There will also be a group evaluation sheet done in class, where each person will evaluate the members of their own group. I will use these to determine if everybody did enough work in the project to deserve full credit. I reserve the right to take away points from your individual score if I feel like you did not contribute enough to help your group complete the project. Total Points 100 points Each group will play and evaluate the games made by the other groups. All the evaluations, including Ms. Shaw’s, will then be combined together for a QUIZ grade. There are 100 possible points for this project. 40 points is made up of the average of your classmate’s evaluations of your game 45 points is my grade for your game. 5 points for your own job description page 10 points for the sheet of all of the problems from your question cards worked out These will be added together to make your score out of 100 points. HELPFUL HINT: Use blackboard to go back and look at what chapters and sections of the book we’ve covered this year. You may use any questions from the book, notes, or worksheets that we’ve used. It might be useful to use questions from all of the test reviews that I’ve handed out before each test since all of the answers to them are on blackboard (you can find all of the reviews and answers for them on blackboard). The group with the highest peer evaluation average will get a bonus of 5 points on their final exam!!! The second highest average will get 4 bonus points on their final exam, and the third highest average will get a bonus of 3 bonus points on their final exam! th Period 5 – Due FRIDAY May 18 st Period 4 – Due MONDAY May 21 Have fun & Good Luck! TURN IN CHECKLIST (check this before you come to class on the day it’s due!): Original game board All pieces needed to play the game One-page typed summary/list of rules Question cards (with a way for the players to check their answers) Game box (decorated) with all game materials inside Sheet of paper will all game questions worked out (will be turned in separately) Three job description pages (one per member of the group)
